The Audiologist is responsible for testing, evaluating, and prescribing treatment of hearing disorders. Responsible for a full range of diagnostic and rehabilitative services to all patients.

Job Relationships

Reports to the Director of Audiology

Principal Responsibilities

Obtain case history and administer diagnostic tests to determine nature and degree of hearing problem.

Consult with patients on the nature of hearing loss and communicate problems. Develop an individual treatment program. Conduct follow-up to determine patient progress.

Interpret results and dictate reports for medical records. Consult with other medical professional.

Plan and direct treatment programs to restore patient's hearing to within normal range of functional for communication skills.

Instruct patients, families, friends, and relatives in rehabilitative procedures.

Develop new audiology program and services within clinic and outreach facilities.

Perform hearing aid evaluations and dispense hearing aids.

Check hearing aids, repair hearing aids, and sell batteries for hearing aids.

Make referral for further medical treatment and evaluation as test results dictate.

Maintain audiometric sound rooms in a clean and orderly manner. Keep equipment in good working condition.

Attend necessary meetings to maintain continued education hours.

Participate in professional involvement activities and maintain professional affiliations such as membership in the Illinois Speech and Hearing Society and membership with the American Speech and Hearing Society.

Maintain patient confidentiality. Provide records and information per request by referring physicians.

Perform other job duties as assigned.

Comply with the Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedures.

Adhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training & accomplishments as required per policy.

Provide excellent customer service and adhere to SC Way customer service philosophy.

Education/Experience

M.S./M/A./Ph.D. degree required. Major in Audiology.

Licenses/Certificates

State of Illinois Audiologist license required.

CCC-A certified by ASHA.

Working Environment

Requires manual dexterity and eye/hand coordination for repair and calibration of equipment.

Requires lifting items up to 50 lbs. and carrying them for a distance of 25 feet.

Requires full range of hearing and vision correctable to 20/20.

Required to work under stressful conditions with patients who are confused and sometimes in pain.

Required prolonged standing and/or sitting, frequently bending, stooping or stretching.

May require lifting or positioning a patient.

May be exposed to communicable diseases and body fluids.
