Overview: The Staff Software Engineer L5 works with all service aspects of high throughput and multi-tenant services, has the ability to design components carefully, properly handle errors, write clean and well-factored code with good tests and good maintainability.

Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Build platform services/APIs that enable pipeline onboarding, configuration, execution, and status reporting.
  • Develop backend services in Java (Spring Boot) and/or Python (FastAPI/Django) with strong testing discipline.
  • Own runtime patterns on AWS: ECS/EKS, MWAA, Lambda, Step Functions, RDS, including scaling, failure handling, and deployments.
  • Build and evolve scalable platform abstractions powering mission-critical, high-throughput workloads.
  • Establish and champion platform-wide engineering standards, conventions, and guardrails.
  • Build and maintain Terraform modules and CI/CD pipelines to deploy repeatable infrastructure safely across environments.
  • Drive observability and reliability: metrics, logs, tracing, alerting, SLOs, incident response improvements, and failure-mode analysis.
  • Partner with data engineering teams to turn one-off solutions into reusable platform components and guardrails.
  • Adhere to all confidentiality, HIPAA, regulatory, and other such policies, procedures, and requirements as outlined within Employer's Operating Policies and Procedures in all ways and at all times with respect to any aspect of the data handled or services rendered in the scope of work.
  • Maintain compliance with Inovalon's policies, procedures and mission statement, and fulfill those responsibilities and/or duties that may be reasonably provided by Inovalon for the purpose of achieving operational and financial success.
  • On Call Policy: Participate in an on-call rotation to support critical issues, including outside standard business hours (evenings, weekends, and holidays), ensuring timely response and resolution as per defined SLAs.


Job Requirements:



  • 8-15 years building production backend/platform systems.
  • Strong hands-on experience with:

    • Java + Spring Boot (preferred) and/or strong Python backend development (FastAPI/Django)
    • AWS: ECS/EKS, Lambda, Step Functions, RDS (plus IAM and networking fundamentals)
    • Terraform (modules, environment promotion, drift management)
    • API design patterns (versioning, authN/authZ concepts, idempotency keys, rate limiting)
    • Operational maturity: observability, incident handling, runbooks, reliability improvements


  • Ability to lead through influence and drive cross-team alignment.
  • proactive changes.


Education:



  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or Information Technology


Physical Demands and Work Environment:



  • Sedentary work (i.e. sitting for long periods of time).
  • Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force.
  • Subject to inside environmental conditions.
  • Travel for this position will include less than 10% locally usually for training purposes.

In addition to the base compensation, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.

The actual base pay offered may vary depending on multiple factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal equity. At Inovalon, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.

Base Compensation Range
$113,000 $200,000 USD
