Overview The Analyst in Electric Forecasting will assist the Senior Planning Analyst and the Section Manager in developing the Company's Electric DLA (network) Peak Forecast for the CECONY service territory. The Analyst will lead the New Business Forecasting process, coordinate the acquisition of customer project information, and manage job data integration into the forecast. The Analyst will support the enhancement of models used to forecast New Business growth. The Analyst will work closely with other teams across Energy Management, Customer Engineering, Energy Services, Regional Engineering, Distribution Engineering, Central Engineering, Transmission Planning, and Distribution Planning to develop a deep understanding of the service territory's peak load impacts. The Analyst will be prepared to defend the forecast and fully respond to internal and external inquiries related to the forecast. This position is essential to the success of the Company as it monitors our dynamic energy landscape and ensures consistency among forecasts, strategies, and plans emanating from Energy Management, Strategic Planning, Customer Energy Solutions, and Corporate Affairs. The successful candidate for this position will possess strong analytical skills, an understanding of electric forecasting, and a passion for driving positive change in the energy sector.
Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
- Provide valuable support to the Senior Planning Analyst and the Section Manager in producing forecasts of electric peak demand for CECONY distribution load areas. These forecasts play a crucial role in supporting load relief, operations, reliability, planning, capital budgeting, revenue requirement, rate cases, long range planning purposes, and special studies.
- Lead the New Business forecasting process, coordinate the acquisition of customer project information, and manage job data integration into the forecast. Generate annual New Business job sheets and reports to be used in the electric peak forecast and to be distributed with select Engineering teams.
- Monitor national, state, local, and Company energy policies to ensure consistency among forecasts.
- Perform data verification, data scrubbing, data manipulation, data analysis, econometric regression analysis, and time series analysis utilizing Python, SQL, Excel, VBA, and other robust statistical/analytical software in the process of building models, generating forecasts, and reconciling load.
- Explore, develop, and implement new methods for analyzing and presenting data.
- Deliver presentations on electric peak forecasts and associated load modifiers to upper management, the NYISO, the PSC, New York City governmental agencies, and other stakeholders.
- Assist with the preparation of spreadsheets, reports, regulatory filings, rate case testimony and exhibits, and respond to interrogatories from the PSC and other intervenors to the Companys rate filings.
- Work closely with Policy Integration Forecasting to perform analyses on the impact of load modifiers such as electric vehicles, heat pumps, gas-electrified appliances, solar photovoltaic generation, distributed generation, and battery energy storage systems on the electric peak. Work with other departments to evaluate energy efficiency, demand response, non-wires solutions, voltage reductions, emergency generators, and AMI load shedding to determine their impact on the electric peak. Collaborate closely with Strategic Planning, Customer Energy Solutions, and Corporate Affairs teams to ensure alignment and consistency across forecasts, policies, strategies, and plans.
- Perform other related tasks and assignments as required. Learn new systems as required.
- Perform emergency/storm duty as needed.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience
- Master's Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Economics, or Finance and 2 years full time related work experience or
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Economics, or Finance and 2 years full time related work experience.
Preferred Education/Experience
- Master's Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Economics, or Finance and 2 years full time related work experience.
Relevant Work Experience
- Previous experience in engineering, energy, utility, analytical, technical, forecasting, modeling, or equivalent. Required
- Working knowledge of Python, SQL, Power BI, or VBA and demonstrate an interest in gaining programming skills. Required
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams. Required
- Must be proficient in developing comprehensive and analytical spreadsheet models in Excel. Required
- Previous experience in engineering, or forecasting of electric, gas, steam or equivalent. Preferred
- Working knowledge of regression analysis and advanced statistics. Preferred
- Working knowledge of electric utility, distribution system, grid infrastructure, or energy system/services. Preferred
- Familiarity with clean energy technologies, policies, and data relating to electric vehicles, heat pumps, gas-electrified appliances, solar PV, DG, BESS, and EE. Preferred
