Position Summary
The Department of Surgery at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking a permanent academic Vascular Surgeon to join our Division of Vascular Surgery.

The Division of Vascular Surgery is among 9 clinical Divisions in the Department of Surgery. The Division currently includes 8 faculty members who provide exceptional care to patients from across the state of North Carolina.

The successful candidate will have experience in all aspects of vascular surgery, including both open and endovascular surgery, and will possess advanced expertise in open and endovascular management of complex aortic pathology, and will contribute to the division s missions in clinical excellence, education, and research. This position offers the opportunity to practice at a high-volume tertiary/quaternary referral center with a collaborative, multidisciplinary aortic program.

Clinical responsibilities will include:

  • Provide comprehensive care for patients with complex aortic disease, including thoracic, thoracoabdominal, pararenal, and juxtarenal aortic pathology
  • Perform advanced open and endovascular aortic procedures, including:

    • Complex EVAR (fenestrated and branched techniques)

    • TEVAR and hybrid aortic repairs
    • Open thoracic and thoracoabdominal aortic reconstruction is preferred but not required



  • Participate in multidisciplinary aortic conferences and collaborative care with cardiothoracic surgery, interventional radiology, cardiology, and anesthesia
  • Contribute to vascular surgery call coverage and general vascular surgery practice as appropriate
  • Maintain high standards of quality, safety, and patient-centered care

Academic Responsibilities will include:

  • Teach and mentor medical students, residents, and vascular surgery fellows
  • Participate in formal educational activities, including conferences, skills labs, and simulation
  • Serve as a role model for professionalism, clinical excellence, and lifelong learning

Research and Scholarship:

  • Engage in clinical, translational, and/or outcomes-based research related to aortic disease
  • Develop and maintain an academic focus with peer-reviewed publications and presentations
  • Participate in clinical trials, device development, or registry-based research as appropriate
  • Seek external or internal research funding consistent with academic rank

This position is being recruited as an open-rank, open-track appointment at an FTE between 0.5 FTE and 1.0 FTE. The appointment may also be offered as a fixed term track or tenure/tenure track appointment. The faculty member will be expected to perform both clinical and research duties, along with the academic responsibilities of an educational institution.

Individuals who exhibit exceptional skills and achievements may be considered for a leadership position within the department of surgery. Leadership roles are not guaranteed and are dependent upon the current needs of our surgical service lines.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited institution
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited Vascular Surgery residency or fellowship
  • Board certified or board eligible in Vascular Surgery
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in the applicable state
  • Demonstrated commitment to academic surgery, education, and research

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • Additional fellowship training in complex aortic surgery or advanced endovascular techniques preferred
  • Strong technical skills in both open and endovascular aortic surgery
  • Collaborative approach to multidisciplinary care
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in clinical care, education, and research
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills

Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Campus Security Authority Responsibilities

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
