The Office of University Investments is seeking a highly qualified Investment Accountant.

This position is in OUI's New York City office. The office currently operates on a hybrid schedule (fully remote work is not available for the position).

No relocation assistance is provided for this position.

Hiring budget for this position is between $73,825 - $85,797 /annual.

Who we are:

Cornell's Office of University Investment (OUI) manages the University's approximately $12+ billion endowment, which supports the University's mission by seeking to generate superior risk-adjusted returns. OUI seeks to achieve this goal by pursuing a very broad set of investment opportunities. The global, multiple-asset class approach taken exploits a central insight of modern financial theory: namely, that portfolio risk can be minimized for any targeted rate of return through the inclusion of a broad selection of asset classes - since risky asset classes often behave differently as regional and global economic, financial, and political events unfold. OUI is located in mid-town New York City.

The Investment Office is responsible for implementing policies established by the University Board of Trustees and its Investment Committee. The Investment Office helps support the University's mission of being a top research university that provides accessibility to students. The Chief Investment Officer is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of the Investment Office and is supported by a dedicated team of investment professionals.

Purpose and Goals:

Reporting to the Senior Investment Officer, Operations, the position will assist in the reporting for a diversified portfolio of public equities, fixed income, hedge funds and various private partnerships. Perform activities for the compilation, input and presentation of investment data. Follow internal controls to ensure data integrity and compliance with manager due diligence/oversight requirements. Collaborate with Operations and Investments teams to follow and implement policies and procedures relating to database management, report production and corresponding workflow processes. Assist in working with 3rd party service providers.

Responsibilities:

  • Process cash flows including calls, distributions, contributions, and redemptions, as directed. Update net asset value of investments based on reporting information and activity for the period. Review custodian's account values and provide comments to ensure the custodian's books and accurately reflecting investment activity and valuation..

  • Support the tax team and tax return process by providing the necessary information from investments.

  • Assist in identifying and implementing best practice in investment operations with a control-oriented focus on reporting, technology and process/procedures.

Required Qualifications: Associate's degree and at least 2 - 4 years of accounting or financial experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Familiarity with investment operations.

  • Understanding of accounting methods and financial reporting.

  • Understanding of investment instruments (equities, fixed income, alternatives, derivatives, private equity).

  • Excellent spreadsheet skills.Ability to leverage technology across multiple platforms for effective communication of investment information.Ability to perform ad hoc reporting and analysis.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills required.

  • Critical thinker and creative problem-solver.A team-oriented individual who emphasizes collaboration and fosters effective relationships inside and outside the university.

  • Demonstrated aptitude for managing database systems and information delivery.
