General Information:

Facilities Management at JMU currently has an open position for a Carpenter Senior. This position ensures safety and security of JMU buildings and structures by providing quality work on a variety of structures using various materials and ensuring code compliance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

*Installing, repairing and replacing new and existing doors
*Installing and repairing various door closures, electronic locks and latches
*Constructing, fabricating, repairing and maintaining a variety of structures, displays, storage units among other items consisting of wood, plastic Corian, Lexan, laminates etc..
*Completing projects that require creative solutions, research and design
*Repairing anything made of wood such as desks, furniture and cabinets
*Erecting new walls and repairing of existing walls consistent with state and federal code regulations
*Consulting and assisting engineers, electricians, plumbers and utility shop on university wide projects

Qualifications:

*Extensive experience using electrical and manual power tools safely and effectively related to the carpentry trade
*Demonstrated ability to install fixtures and repair furniture
*Extensive knowledge of carpentry principles, practices and techniques
*Knowledge of building trades
*Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
*Ability to fulfill rotating on call responsibilities and accommodate any necessary temporary shift demands
