Overview

We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Project Manager to join our Environmental Engineering, Construction and Remediation Practice in Blacksburg, Virginia

The successful candidate will work on a wide range of environmental projects in project management and team support roles. Work includes but is not limited to management of groundwater monitoring programs at solid waste facilities across Virginia, environmental analysis, preparation of plans and reports in support of various environmental compliance activities, permit applications, design and implementation of environmental site assessments and remediation, financial management of projects, proposal preparation, client coordination, and mentoring junior-level staff.


Responsibilities

  • Maintain and grow existing client accounts
  • Support or lead the development of proposals
  • Support or lead financial management of projects
  • Interpret data and observations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry guidelines and standards.
  • Execute field assignments requiring knowledge of sampling/testing techniques and the operation and maintenance of sampling/testing equipment.
  • Manage a variety of field work including groundwater, stormwater, and gas monitoring, environmental assessments, environmental investigations, site inspections, remedial implementation, and subcontractor oversight.
  • Author or provide technical or senior review of both technical and non-technical company deliverables.
  • Responsible for maintaining project files for assigned projects and providing project support.
  • Train and mentor technicians and junior-level staff
  • Understand, participate, and follow Health & Safety program and plans
  • Maintain safe working environment
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of related work experience
  • B.S. Degree in Geology, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science or related engineering disciplines (e.g., civil, Geotech, solid waste) required.
  • Excellent understanding of and experience in utilizing pertinent aspects of geology, hydrogeology, environmental engineering, chemistry and public health in environmental assessments and remediation; experience in another related applications a plus.
  • Experience in and ability to interpret letter and intent of regulations in multiple states (e.g., VA, WVA, NC, SC)
  • Manage large and complex tasks and provide technical leadership to ensure internal and external expectations are met for scope, budget, schedule, and quality.
  • Understanding of field work tasks such as soil sampling, groundwater sampling, borehole logging, well installation, soil-vapor sampling, soil and groundwater remediation, gas monitoring, site reconnaissance, and subcontractor oversight
  • Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment managing multiple deadlines for multiple clients and project managers.
  • Business development skills and willingness to make connections in the marketplace
  • Ability to work in a team environment across multiple organizational locations.
  • Detail and results oriented, decisive, take-charge attitude, team player, adapts to change, sense of urgency, self-directed, self-motivated.
  • Valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle record
  • Familiarity with MSOffice work products and associated computer skills.
  • Strong safety focus and work ethic
  • Responsive and flexible
  • Able to lift 50 lbs
  • Ability to travel, including overnight travel
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check and motor vehicle records check.

PREFERRED TRAINING, TECHNICAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and an up to date 8-hr annual refresher course
  • Master's degree in Geology or Environmental Engineering or related field.
  • Professional Geologist or Professional Engineer license is preferred but not required
  • Experience with EPA Brownfields grant application, VDEQ Brownfields Program, and NCDEQ Divisions and Brownfields Program.
  • Experience in collecting and analyzing results of indoor vapor and soil gas testing.
  • Experience with RCRA/Hazardous Waste a plus

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.

Other Compensation:Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company's annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
