Position Summary

The Production Shift Manager is responsible for leading safe, compliant, and efficient shift operations within an extrusion manufacturing environment. This role drives team performance, supports continuous improvement, ensures product quality and on-time delivery, and develops high-performing employees aligned with operational and business objectives.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Promote and maintain a safe, clean, and compliant work environment; lead with safety as a core value.

  • Ensure all operations follow company policies, procedures, and operational standards.

  • Meet or exceed customer expectations for quality, service, and on-time delivery.

  • Partner with Maintenance to minimize downtime and support proactive asset management.

  • Lead product scale-ups and new product introductions in extrusion manufacturing.

  • Participate in plant committees and meetings (Safety, Quality, 5S, Housekeeping).

  • Identify and address issues impacting safety, quality, productivity, and engagement.

  • Support facility safety initiatives and continuous improvement aligned with the HB Fuller Way.

  • Apply structured root-cause problem solving and implement sustainable corrective actions.

  • Maintain accountability for shift-level inventory and reconcile material loss.

  • Build, coach, and develop high-performing shift teams.

  • Lead the Performance Planning & Assessment (PPA) process and manage corrective actions with Plant Manager and HR.

  • Support hiring, onboarding, and training of new employees; reinforce performance expectations.

  • Operate mixers, extruders, or forklifts as needed and provide break coverage or floor support.

  • Start up or shut down plant operations during shift transitions when required.

  • Monitor team morale and escalate operational concerns to plant leadership.

  • Support cross-training and employee development initiatives.

  • Ensure accurate and timely ERP production data entry.

  • Contribute to achievement of departmental and shift KPIs.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and 3+ years of supervisory experience.

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills.

  • Demonstrated business and financial acumen.

  • Proficiency in SAP and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage conflict, and drive results independently.

  • Strong problem-solving and prioritization capability.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment (standing, walking, stairs, heat/cold exposure).

  • Ability to lift 40 lbs regularly.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Engineering, Business, or related field.

  • Experience in extrusion or continuous manufacturing processes.

  • Background in 24/7 or rotating shift production environments.

  • Training or certification in Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.

  • Familiarity with OSHA and environmental regulatory compliance.

  • Demonstrated success supporting culture change or safety transformation.

  • Strong potential and interest in advancing to an Operations Manager role.

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, and geographic location.

The salary for this role is $80,000.00 - $95,000.00 / based on experience.
