Position Summary: The Instructional Design Specialist plays a key role in the design, development, and continuous improvement of instructional content for the Flight Operations department related to pilot training. This position will collaborate with Training Managers, Instructors, Evaluators, and Advanced Qualification Program (AQP) Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to deliver optimal training experience for all learners covered by Flight Operations, with an emphasis on training center students and attendees. This position will also ensure compliance with all Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulatory requirements pertaining to pilot training. Major Job Accountabilities:
- Content creation responsibilities include but are not limited to the design and development of instructor guides, syllabi, and learning objectives documents. Create and maintain instructional materials such as facilitator/participant guides, job aids, and other learning resources.
- Design and development of engaging training materials for a variety of delivery methods, such as instructor-led, computer-based training modules and storyboards.
- Reviews and interprets Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), Company policies, Collective Bargaining Agreement(s) (CBA) and applies guidance and insight on the instructional design as it pertains to AQP.
- This role will analyze multiple sources of data to determine training program effectiveness and efficiency and summarize results in formal reports. Establish and maintain formal and informal Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to track effectiveness of training programs and initiatives via qualitative and quantitative data.
- Administrative responsibilities include but are not limited tomaintaining formal documentation of government and corporate programs, an electronic Program Audit Data Base (PADB), and a training recording/certification system.
- Serve as a SME on adult learning theory, instructional methods, and compliance requirements to produce analysis reports, design documents, curriculum outlines, instructor courseware and regulatory documentation.
- Exercise expert understanding of complex technical training programs to work with a wide range of stakeholders at all leadership levels to ensure that pilot training programs are effective, efficient, compliant, and aligned with corporate safety and operational objectives, FARs and the CBA. This role will regularly contribute to the development of new training concepts, techniques, and standards by using ISD methodologies.
- Operating in a highly regulated environment, this role routinely supports internal and external audits, understanding Pilot Audit Data Base (PADB), and a training recording/certification system to identify skills gaps and training needs.
- Develop and convert draft/content from SMEs into effective learning objects; responsibilities include elements of all phases of the Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate (ADDIE) model.
- Ensure timely transmission of data or content as described in the implementation plan. Practice safety conscious behaviors in all operational processes and procedures.
- Maintains working knowledge of CRM/TEM including FAA regulations, Advisory Circulars, ICAO, and other international standards.
- Performs all duties as assigned by the Senior Manager, Advanced Qualification Program (AQP) or other senior Training Staff members.
Qualifications: State the following for entry into this job:
- Four (4) year degree in Education, Instructional Design, Aviation or equivalent work experience is required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of training-related work experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Articulate360, and Microsoft Office360 is required.
- Practical experience using Instructional Systems Design (ISD) methodologies
- Practical experience working with technical training subjects and compliance training is a plus
- Certifications from various Instructional Design organizations or associations are preferred:
- Association of Talent Development (ATD) Certified Professional in Learning Development (CPLP)/Certified Professional in Talent Development (CPTD)
- International Society of Performance Improvement (ISPI) Certified Performance Technologist (CPT)
- Project Management Institute (PMI) Project Management Professional (PMP)
- American Society for Quality (ASQ) Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), Certified Quality Improvement Associate (CQIA), Certified Quality Process Analyst (CQPA) certification
- AQP design and development experience is a plus.
- Working knowledge of the FARs and Advisory Circulars is a plus.
