The Opportunity

The Rothwell Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (RCTLE) provides academic and instructional support for ERAU's Worldwide Campus aligning with the University's strategic plan, specifically goal #3 - Achieve academic excellence with exceptional programs and outstanding faculty. The Instructional Consultant I (Level 1), is responsible for guiding, mentoring and developing faculty throughout their lifecycle with ERAU-W. This is accomplished through regular communication, observation and individualized consultation that supports faculty as they prepare to teach, when they are actively teaching and as they wrap-up teaching requirements. This can include reviewing courses to ensure adherence to contractual agreements and evidence-based instructional practices, engaging in dispute resolution by effective communication with academic advisors and college leadership as well as collaboration with college leadership to quickly address concerns and offer additional training opportunities. The Instructional Consultant I will serve as an expert in best practices in pedagogy, instructional technology, reflective teaching, and the scholarship of teaching and learning, and as such is expected to actively and continuously engage in professional development activities to remain current in teaching and educational technology trends, and stay up-to-date with Embry-Riddle's curriculum, instructional technology, and polices.

The Instructional Consultant I will identify instructional opportunities and provide appropriate support through regular consultations with new and veteran faculty and in accordance with college recommendations. The Instructional Consultant I will support regular updates of existing resources, or creation of new support materials to enhance instructional excellence based on the needs of RCTLE or the College Support Team as directed by the Director. This can include ongoing optional offerings or additional resources. The Instructional Consultant I will also work with their college team to design, deliver and evaluate college-specific resources and offerings to best meet the current goals of the college and the strategic initiatives of the university.

Due to the dynamic nature of RCTLE, the Instructional Consultant I must be flexible and able to work collaboratively both within the RCTLE team and with the other ERAU departments and colleges as needed to best serve the needs of the ERAU-W faculty thus positively impacting student success. For example, the Instructional Consultant I will provide appropriate insights with Instructional Designers and Course developers by evaluating available and appropriate data and communicating trends, concerns, and strengths to enhance the instructional design and development process and support student success.

Essential Job Functions Faculty Guidance & Instructional Support
  • Mentor and support faculty throughout all phases of teaching, including course preparation, active instruction, and post-course activities.

  • Review assigned courses to ensure adherence to contractual requirements and instructional best practices.

  • Conduct faculty observations and provide actionable feedback and improvement resources.

  • Research, evaluate, and recommend emerging pedagogical strategies and instructional technologies.

Faculty Training & Development

  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate faculty development offerings, workshops, and training sessions.

  • Support institutional and college-specific teaching and learning initiatives.

  • Develop and deliver resources that promote instructional excellence and faculty engagement.

Instructional Consultation & Collaboration

  • Provide individualized consultations for new and experienced faculty.

  • Collaborate with college leadership to address instructional concerns and support dispute resolution.

  • Partner with Instructional Designers and course developers to share insights, trends, and opportunities for course improvement.

Campus, Technology & Curriculum Support

  • Collaborate with cross-functional university units to enhance the faculty and student experience.

  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of instructional resources and support materials.

  • Assist with curriculum, instructional technology, and academic support initiatives aligned with university strategy.

Professional Engagement

  • Maintain expertise in teaching and learning trends through ongoing professional development.

  • Stay current on institutional curriculum, instructional technologies, and policies.

  • Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field

  • (3-5) years of work related experience

Required Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:

  • At least three years of teaching experience.

  • Excellent skills in performing administrative tasks and supervising personnel when needed.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Excellent research skills in the areas of evidence-based teaching practices.

  • Strong project management skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with faculty, RCTLE staff, IT staff, and Library staff.

  • Must be a self-starter and have the ability to work without close supervision.
