Vice President - Transportation (Seattle, Pacific Northwest) Role Description: Huitt-Zollars, Inc has a full-time opportunity for a Vice President, Transportation for our Seattle office. The candidate will have at least 15 years of experience in transportation with a strong emphasis on transit and ports, and preferred experience working with state DOTs. This role is responsible for leading complex transportation projects and driving strategic business development efforts across the Pacific Northwest. The successful candidate will develop business and manage transportation projects involving planning, engineering, construction, and program management services, with a heavy focus on growing transit work and expanding Huitt-Zollars' transportation presence in the region. Current clients served include Sound Transit, King County Metro, and the Port of Seattle. In addition, this role will lead growth efforts with WSDOT and other regional transportation partners, leveraging Huitt-Zollars' roadway and bridge experience from other regions to expand services across Washington State. - Report to the firm's Transportation Practice Area Lead, lead the growth of the transportation market in Pacific Northwest including transit, port and WsDOT and manage the Seattle office transportation team.
- Contribute to the development of the Transportation Business Plans by collaborating with the Transportation Practice Area Lead and Transportation PICs nationwide.
- Conduct business development activities for transportation projects and cultivate strong client relationships including Sound Transit, King County Metro, and the Port of Seattle, while expanding reach to WsDOT and additional public agencies and partner organizations throughout the Pacific Northwest.
- Serve as Project Manager or Principal-In-Charge on transportation projects and oversee the execution of the transportation projects, ensuring quality, scope compliance, and profitability.
- Project duties include Develop & negotiate project scopes, budgets, and schedules, including reviewing contract terms. Monitor project progress including review of monthly invoices and progress reports.
- Recruit, manage, and mentor staff ensuring performance excellence on assigned projects.
- Participate in Industry Organizations such as APTA, SWTA, RailVolution, COMTO, Commuter Rail Coalition, and various State Transit Associations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Takes active steps in the pursuit of winning new business or additional opportunities with existing clients and may be responsible for a stated portion of office sales goal. Assists and/or leads team in pursuit of new work (repeat work, SOQ and Proposals). Develops and/or executes project Win strategy.
- Successfully and consistently functions as Lead Principal-in-Charge for their designated Practice Area in geographic market.
- Competent, knowledgeable, service leader in the market(s) they service.
- Understands and follows HZ QMS and Quality initiatives. Ensures quality control measures are being adhered to on projects and daily operations.
- Prepares and follows comprehensive Project Framework Instructions and proper work planning for a project. Ensures proper staff is assigned and utilized on their projects.
- Reviews project reports and performance metrics to track project progress and budget. Leads successful projects (profit, on-schedule, quality, satisfied client). Verifies client satisfaction routinely and shares feedback with team.
- Proactively works with PM to strategize resolving issues that impact project performance. Reviews progress with PM at least monthly (including & completes vs. % spent) and that PM is adhering to weekly rhythm.
- Successfully contributes to the overall profitability and financial performance on projects.
- Oversees staff deliverables and production assigned to their projects to ensure client, legal, and company requirements are met.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Planning required.
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE), or Registered Architect (RA).
- Minimum of 15 years of transportation engineering experience.
- Demonstrated experience delivering and growing work in transit, port, and DOT markets in the Pacific Northwest.
- Project Management experience on transportation projects.
- Direct client-facing experience with Sound Transit, King County Metro, and the Port of Seattle or similar clients.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Physical Requirements:

Annual Base Salary Range: $200,000-$240,000 and up depending on experience and qualifications of the selected candidate(s). The expected salary range for this position is displayed in accordance with the Washington Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. The final agreed upon compensation is based on the success candidate's individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and consideration to participate in our discretionary annual bonus incentive program.
