Overview

Beyond New Horizons, LLC (BNH) has an exciting opportunity for an X-ray Lab Lead Technician and Radiation Safety Officer, supporting the Test Operations and Sustainment contract at Arnold Engineering Development Complex at Arnold Air Force Base, Tennessee. The X-Ray Lab Lead Technician/RSO will work as a member of an integrated team responsible for operating and maintaining the United States Air Force Test Operations and Sustainment efforts.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will function as the X-Ray Lab Lead Technician, ensuring operations are accomplished successfully within the X-Ray Lab. The Lead Technician will provide oversight of X-Ray Lab personnel under the guidance of the NDE Supervisor. As Radiation Safety Officer (RSO), the selected candidate will manage all aspects of our radiation protection program and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations and BNH's Radioactive Materials License.

Job Duties:

    Daily operations and oversight of radiographic personnel including assigning of projects
  • Identifies and advocates manpower and resources to assure completion of established X-Ray lab objectives
  • Recommend and implement new policies, modification to existing policies, procedures, and work instructions
  • Assures proper housekeeping and safety of lab personnel in addition to on-site visitors
  • Create and maintain auditable records applicable to the Radiation Safety Program
  • Ensure compliant receipt, transfer shipping of radioactive material
  • Create and or update Operating and Emergency procedures that are required under the federal and state regulations for industrial radiography utilizing radioactive material
  • Ensure only qualified and approved personnel are allowed to access and use radioactive material for the purpose or performing radiographic inspections within the X-ray Laboratory
  • Perform periodic unannounced personnel audits while using radioactive material, ensures radiographic equipment is inspected and calibrated as required
  • Create and/or update plans and procedures associated with NRC Part 37 regulations and maintain records as required under state regulations and as required by NRC Part 37
  • Perform record and file audits to identify any areas of non-compliance or in need of improvement
  • Ensure that personnel exposure monitoring dosimetry is available and records of exposure are maintained
  • Act as liaison with the State of Tennessee Department Radiological Health/NRC concerning the procurement, possession, storage and use of radioactive material and provide input and assistance with state audits
  • Ensure all approved access personnel meet the personnel integrity requirements as set forth in NRC Part 37 regulations
  • Develop and provide associated annual Radiation Safety Training and other training required by regulations, ensuring completion by appropriate personnel
  • It is a condition of employment to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy
  • Perform other duties as required

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School diploma plus 2 years college or technical training, and 8 years of demonstrated relevant and progressive experience
  • Completion of a Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) training course, or previously approved by an Agreement State or the NRC to be the RSO for a material license
  • Must be at least Level II certified inspector in accordance with ASNT SNT-TC-1A guidelines (RT RAM-X-ray) with 5 years' experience as a certified radiographer with film interpretation
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret level security clearance and access to the AEDC local area network
  • Due to Air Force Security requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required for employment at AEDC

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associates degree in engineering technology with curriculum in non-destructive testing and evaluation
  • Current ASNT Industrial Radiation Safety Personnel (IRRSP) certification through The American Society of Nondestructive Testing
  • Current Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) for a material license
  • Qualified and certifiable to Level II-III in the following NDE methods: Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT-UTT), Radiographic Testing (RT-RAM/X-ray) with film interpretation, and Visual Testing (VT)
  • Experienced in reading Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) of mechanical systems
  • Knowledge and experience with the following: ASME B&PV Codes V, VIII Divisions 1&2, ASME B31.1, B31.3 and NBIC NB-23
  • Current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification through The American Welding Society
  • Current API 510/570/653 certification through The American Petroleum Institute
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Word products
  • Careful attention to detail
  • Strong problem-solving/troubleshooting skills

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations and refers to the amount BNH is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time jobs will be adjusted based upon the number of hours agreed to work.

Arnold Airforce Base $59,000 - $100,000/year
