Engineering Support roles encompass a diverse range of positions that provide technical assistance and expertise to engineering teams across various disciplines. These roles may involve tasks such as conducting research, performing analyses, and assisting in the design and development of engineering projects. Engineering support professionals work closely with engineers and other stakeholders to ensure projects meet quality standards, deadlines, and budgetary constraints.

Discipline Description

Engineering specialists support engineers in the design, modification, improvement, and maintenance of products, processes, and systems in support of nuclear facility operations and missions. Activities include identifying and recommending improvements/preventive actions, inspecting, testing, maintaining, repairing, and installing equipment and systems. They may develop/configure software and/or applications. They monitor processes, estimate costs, make, or verify calculations, and analyze and interpret data. They test new and modified products, processes, and/or systems.

Some Typical Duties & Responsibilities Include:

The Modern Manufacturing Specialist is a key player in supporting the seamless operation of our manufacturing facility through the effective integration and management of modern manufacturing systems. This role focuses on empowering Operations by ensuring that existing and future tools, systems, and processes enhance facility performance, increase reliability, and support efficiency and safety standards. As part of the Facility Support team, this position blends hands-on operational expertise with the application of innovative solutions tailored to the needs of modern manufacturing environments.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
* Actively support Operations in adopting, optimizing, and maintaining modern manufacturing tools and systems to meet production and facility goals.
* Conduct plant and equipment walkthroughs to assess systems' alignment with operational objectives, identify opportunities for enhancements, and confirm compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards.
* Assist in the setup, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of manufacturing systems, including automation devices, facility controls, and production data platforms.
* Act as a resource to Operations staff by identifying practical, technology-driven solutions to simplify processes, improve equipment reliability, and streamline workflows.
* Coordinate with Operations, Engineering, and other stakeholders to ensure technology is integrated in ways that support real-world production and facility demands.
* Collaborate closely with teams to troubleshoot issues, address operational challenges, and minimize downtime through prompt and focused resolution of system or equipment problems.
* Support initiatives such as facility upgrades, expansions, and new technology implementations, helping Operations teams adapt to and benefit from these improvements.
* Analyze data collected from production processes to deliver actionable insights, such as process optimization or predictive maintenance recommendations.
* Ensure proper documentation of workflows, training procedures, and troubleshooting steps so team members can easily navigate modern manufacturing systems.
* Provide hands-on training to the Operations team on new tools, software, and equipment, ensuring the workforce is confident and proficient in their use.
* Maintain and enforce compliance with regulatory, safety, and security standards related to facility systems, tools, and operations.
* Communicate regularly with Facility Support leadership to provide updates on system performance, process improvement opportunities, and success metrics tied to operational goals.

Required Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in relevant field plus at least five years of experience (YOE) in a relevant role, OR Master's degree in relevant field plus at least two years of experience (YOE), OR Doctoral degree in relevant field
* Equivalencies to experience and education requirements will be considered

Security Clearance Information

SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug & alcohol test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
