'One Health' Liaison Librarian (UL487)

The University of Minnesota Libraries invites applications for two collaborative and partnership-oriented 'One Health' Liaison Librarians to join a team of health sciences librarians who work to advance the teaching, learning, and research initiatives of the University of Minnesota health sciences programs. These positions will be hired at either the Assistant or Associate Librarian level. They will primarily have liaison librarian responsibilities in the public health and veterinary medicine subjects, which are disciplines that are closely aligned in a 'One Health' concept where health issues across humans, animals (domestic and wild), and the environment are driving interdisciplinary collaboration. These positions will work in a team environment to plan and deliver librarian expertise to both disciplines in instruction sessions, personalized consultations, literature searches, and systematic reviews and other evidence synthesis projects. The successful candidates will clearly articulate the connection between this position and their individual work, education, and lived experience, and they will bring a strong interest in growing and developing professionally as a health sciences librarian. They will serve as a key member of the Health Sciences Libraries (HSL) Education and Research Services team of seven librarians and one librarian specialist, reporting to the HSL Associate Director. The 'One Health' liaison librarians will work closely with faculty, students, and staff in the School of Public Health and the College of Veterinary Medicine, as well as with colleagues in HSL and across the University Libraries system.

ENVIRONMENT

The Health Sciences Libraries, part of the University of Minnesota Libraries system, include the contemporary Health Sciences Library and the Wangensteen Historical Library of Biology and Medicine. Both libraries serve as anchors in the Health Sciences Education Center where they offer technology-rich spaces and state-of-the-art collections, supported by the deep expertise of our staff. Together, these resources position the Health Sciences Libraries as recognized partners with the University of Minnesota Academic Health Sciences, one of the nation's few comprehensive health sciences programs, encompassing medicine, nursing, dentistry, public health, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, and allied health that span the Twin Cities, Duluth, Rochester, and St. Cloud campuses. Collectively, the Academic Health Sciences enrolls 6,000 students and employs 2,400 faculty and 4,200 staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The 'One Health' Liaison Librarians will apply their skill set to offer library-related expertise and services in alignment with the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) and the School of Public Health (SPH) programs, including their education, research, and population/patient care initiatives. Focus areas include the integration of evidence-based practice and health information literacy into both curricula, and support for research and scholarship, including systematic reviews and other information-related research processes.

The successful candidates will:

• Actively engage with faculty, administrators, clinicians, and students to understand their teaching, learning, and research needs, and identify ways in which the libraries can meet those needs.
• Develop and teach course-integrated instruction sessions, incorporating evidence-based practice, health literacy, and new technologies into the learning environment.
• Provide library consultations for affiliated faculty, staff, and students that support their teaching, learning, and research needs.
• Provide literature search results to SPH and CVM faculty and staff by request.
• Work as a team to partner with researchers on evidence synthesis/systematic review projects.
• Contribute to Health Sciences Libraries and broader University Libraries-wide projects and initiatives.

The positions are full-time, 12-month, continuous-track, academic professional positions with probationary appointments at the Assistant or Associate Librarian level. The successful candidates will be expected to be active professionally and to contribute to developments in the field. The Libraries offer a competitive salary commensurate with experience, with excellent benefits and substantial moving allowance. Continuous-track appointment librarians are evaluated and promoted on the basis of their fulfillment of the position expectations, their service to the Libraries, University and/or community, and their professional development and contribution. The successful candidates will receive annual professional development funds. Professional development leaves are also available to continuous appointment librarians.

These positions offer flexible work options, with a current requirement of working onsite a minimum of two days each week at the Health Sciences Library, and as needed as required by the work.

Required:

• American Library Association accredited Master's degree in Library/Information Science OR equivalent combination of advanced degree and relevant experience.
• Work or educational experience (e.g., internship, practicum, coursework) in an academic, academic health sciences, hospital, public, or other library setting.
• Ability to work collaboratively and build and sustain effective relationships with diverse audiences.
• Ability to take initiative, develop and carry out projects, and manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Ability to communicate effectively in a variety of settings and modalities.

Preferred: Note that candidates need not meet preferred qualifications to be considered.

• Work and/or educational experience (e.g., internship, practicum, coursework) related to health sciences librarianship, including but not limited to systematic reviews, evidence-based practice, research data management, research compliance, and research impact measures.
• Demonstrated teaching skills, with an understanding of pedagogical best practices and instructional design principles for online and in-person instruction.

Salary Range: $63,000 - $66,000 Assistant Librarian; $75,000 - $78,000 Associate Librarian; depending on qualifications/rank/internal equity. Associate rank requires demonstrated substantial command of area of responsibility.
