Small Grains Summer Worker

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the small plot research and single row plots
  • Assist in weeding, trial maintenance, data collection, and irrigation set-up and monitoring
  • Assist in harvest and post-harvest activities as time allows
  • Operating equipment may be necessary, and training will be provided for all equipment

This is a temporary seasonal position with start and end dates based on college schedules. The schedule is 40 hours per week and typically 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, these hours may be adjusted under certain circumstances.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum age of 16
  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to work in a team and independently
  • Must be able to work in a wide range of outdoor conditions
  • Ability to sit, kneel, stand, and bend frequently and lift 10-50 pounds
  • Candidates must be willing to travel to offsite field trials periodically
  • Current and valid driver's license

  • Interest in agriculture research
About the Department

The Northwest Research and Outreach Center (NWROC) in Crookston is one of 10 University of Minnesota Research and Outreach Centers throughout Minnesota. NWROC belongs to the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS) on the St. Paul, MN Campus. The specific mission of the NWROC is to conduct applied agronomic research on issues important to NW Minnesota agriculture and extend the results of that research through outreach/extension programs.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $15.25 - $20.00 per hour, depending on education/qualifications/experience.
