POSITION SUMMARY: Researches, analyzes, designs, and tests component parts, processes, or systems to develop new and/or improve core products. Develops and recommends solutions to well-defined engineering requirements, or for components or segments of a complex product or system, to ensure that design objectives are met. Applies engineering principles based on assigned engineering domain (e.g. mechanical; electrical, chemical, etc.). Works for an engineering project or with a cross-functional team; may have regular customer/suppler interaction. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborating in a team environment, the engineer helps resolve issues that affect production or product quality, such as nonconformances, yield concerns, or supplier-related problems. Reviews data, participate in problem-solving sessions, and assist in defining corrective and preventive actions.
- Supports production teams with technical guidance and helps implement improvements that stabilize processes, improve quality, and reduce scrap or rework.
- Helps keep existing products performing as intended by investigating issues that arise in the field or in manufacturing.
- Collects data, review test results, and collaborate with more senior engineers and cross-functional teams to understand the problem.
- Helps define and implement corrective actions, and provide clear technical feedback to internal stakeholders and, when needed, support customer-facing teams with accurate, engineering-based information.
- Completes defined technical tasks (e.g. modify product functional specifications, detailed drawings and schematics; define data elements and structure; analyze and interpret test reports and results). Develops reports and documentation in response to technical information requests.
- Provides technical information for review with product engineering and design review teams.
- Applies established engineering practices, standards, and documentation methods.
- Contributes to supporting documentation for procedures and technical reports.
- Participates in initiatives aimed at improving reliability, manufacturability, and cost effectiveness, often applying basic Lean, Six Sigma, or Parker Business System tools. By supporting standardization, design-for-manufacture, and design-for-reliability activities, they help extend product life, reduce complexity, and improve the overall value delivered to customers.
- Develops detailed product specifications by analyzing performance and customer requirements. Investigates design factors such as function, materials, performance, interchangeability, cost, operational efficiency, and contractual requirements.
- Performs feasibility and trade studies applying standard analytical methods; recommends solutions which are defined and reviewed for implementation.
- Interprets and validates test results for accuracy and precision.
- Ensures conformance to product qualification procedures and parameters to achieve customer and product reliability and safety standards.
- Utilize and interpret predictive models to simulate and verify design concepts.
- Creates and maintains specifications, test procedures, reports, and other technical documents, and help ensure that product changes are captured in a controlled and traceable way.
- Supports risk management activities, such as FMEAs, and help demonstrate compliance during internal or external audits by providing clear technical documentation and rationale for sustaining decisions.
- Reviews product and document specifications to ensure clarity, completeness, form, fit, function, and conformity to standards and procedures. Identifies design errors, process errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommends revisions, engineering change orders, and improvements to engineering management or the project team.
- Helps build engineering capability by sharing knowledge and best practices.
- Montors engineers, co-ops, and technicians, providing guidance on methods, tools, and internal/external standards.
- Serves as a key engineering representative on cross-functional teams, communicating technical status, risks, and options clearly to stakeholders, and helping drive alignment on sustaining priorities and solutions.
- Takes the lead on more complex product and process issues that arise in manufacturing or in the field. Use structured problem-solving methods (such as 5 Whys, fishbone diagrams, or fault tree analysis) to identify true root causes rather than just addressing symptoms.
- Defines and helps implement robust corrective and preventive actions, and provide higher-level technical support to internal teams and, when appropriate, engage directly with customers on technical topics.
- Capable of developing and maintaining schedules and budgets for multi-team projects and can multi-task though simultaneous programs.
- The essential functions have been provided as examples of the type of work performed by employees assigned to this job classification.
- The job description is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of duties and responsibilities. It is intended to describe the general nature of the position.

- Ability to perform the essential functions of the job typically acquired through 4-7 years of related experience.
- Has working knowledge of Mechanical or Hydraulic engineering domain principles and techniques, product functionality, industry practices, regulations, and policies. General knowledge of other related engineering and technical areas.
- Proficient with engineering design and analysis tools (e.g. computer-aided design or modeling systems); ability to use standard Microsoft software packages. May require capability using specialized software applications or languages.
- Ability to work with general objectives regarding projects and team goals; applies judgment in selecting procedures and techniques that should be applied. Works collaboratively in a team environment.
