Leidos seeks a Large Commercial and Industrial Energy Advisor to both market and support energy-efficiency projects in support of the Ameren Illinois Energy Efficiency business program. This exciting position offers a unique career opportunity for a dynamic person with excellent outreach, industrial sales, communication, and organizational skills to influence leading-edge energy efficiency projects within a creative team environment.

Location: This position is fully remote. Ameren Illinois and Leidos believe it is very important to provide employment opportunity to the utility ratepayers that reside in Illinois. Therefore, there is strong preference for the successful candidate to be living no more than 60 miles from the Ameren Illinois service territory - https://www.ameren.com/illinois/company/about-ameren/service-territory (roughly the southern two-thirds of Illinois). The Ameren Illinois service territory includes several large to mid-size communities such as Galesburg, Quincy, Peoria, Bloomington-Normal, Champaign-Urbana, Danville, Decatur, Springfield, Charleston-Mattoon, Effingham, Mt. Vernon, Marion, Carbondale, and Metro East (Belleville, O'Fallon, Granite City, Edwardsville, Alton, Collinsville).

Travel: This position requires up to 40-60% travel, typically day trips (2-3 days per week). Occasional overnight travel (4-5 times per year) for conferences/seminars.

The Challenge:

  • Directly engage, market, and coordinate program energy efficiency services to large industrial and commercial (C&I) customers that would include but not limited to manufacturers, warehouses, commercial/educational campuses and organizations that support the energy consuming systems in facilities on behalf of utility-sponsored energy efficiency programs
  • Manage this existing market segment for Ameren Illinois with energy savings responsibility as the primary focus
  • Ability to work on a range of projects from screening of applications, fostering industry relations, executing programs, delivering presentations, participating in promotional events
  • Perform sector market analysis and provide input in developing/modifying programs to meet changing market needs
  • Coordinate and educate customers, and provide training for internal and external clients on energy related opportunities
  • Work closely with commercial and industrial customers, contractors, suppliers, and engineers to encourage energy efficiency practices in both existing and new facilities
  • The Energy Advisor will report to the Field Energy Advisor Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with building owners, architects, and engineers to understand energy conservation and decarbonization goals.
  • Manage a high-volume portfolio of projects at various stages of the consulting process.
  • Perform energy simulation analyses and deliver model results efficiently.
  • Prepare detailed reports on energy modeling, decarbonization results, and design recommendations.
  • Communicate energy conservation measures to both technical and non-technical team members to support informed design decisions.
  • Collaborate with project managers to ensure high-quality results and deliverables.

Job Requirements / Qualifications:

  • Education:Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Building Science, or a closely related field and 4+ years of relevant experience.
  • Commercial and Industrial experience such as: maintenance, project management, energy programs, utility account representation, budget cycles, and key account management.
  • Building Knowledge:Familiarity with building design, construction processes, and/or building operations.
  • Analytical Skills:Proven ability to interpret complex information and provide strategic recommendations, identifying the benefits, consequences, and impacts of different system options.
  • Software Proficiency:Familiarity with tools like MS Excel to manipulate model inputs and summarize results.
  • Project Management:Ability to manage a high volume of projects in a relatively short time frame.
  • Energy Efficiency Programs:Familiarity with utility-sponsored energy efficiency programs, especially those targeting commercial and industrial customers.
  • Demonstrated initiative in building relationships with customers, vendors, and industry organizations to stay current on operational trends, energy efficiency technologies, and electric and natural gas demand-side management regulations.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented team player with strong communication skills, high accuracy and productivity standards, and a commitment to continuous learning.
  • Valid drivers license and ability to perform field sales type meetings and verification of pre and post installation of energy efficiency measures.

  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
  • Building Energy Modeling Professional (BEMP)
  • LEED Accredited Professional
  • Building Energy Assessment Professional (BEAP)
  • Commissioning Authority (CxA)
  • Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Registered Architect (RA)

Nice to Haves (but Not Required):

  • Sales Experience: While not a sales role, having a background in sales can be beneficial in understanding customer needs and project development.
  • Professional Engineer License: Although not required, a PE license could add value to your technical expertise.
  • Field Consulting: If you enjoy dynamic environments and site visits, this role will suit you. However, it's not ideal for those who prefer stationary office work.
  • Specialized Equipment Knowledge: Broad technical skills are preferred, but specific expertise in certain equipment or systems can be helpful.
  • Change Management Experience: Being comfortable with change and adapting quickly will be a plus in this ever-evolving industry.
