Description

The Department of Sociology at Smith College invites applications for a 3-year, benefits eligible position at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor to begin July 1, 2026. We seek a sociologist whose work focuses on medicine, health, and/or the body. Teaching responsibilities for this position will include teaching Introduction to Sociology and several intermediate (200-level) courses in the candidate's areas of specialty, as well as the possibility of an upper-level (300-level) seminar in the candidate's area of expertise. Strong candidates will have prior teaching experience. The teaching load is 3:2. A Ph.D. in sociology or a relevant field is expected by the time of appointment. Candidates from groups underrepresented in Sociology are encouraged to apply.
