Job Summary : Assures that customer(s) needs are met through the efficient and effective leadership/management of the Engineering, Maintenance, Security, and Groundkeeping programs and effective and efficient management of departmental resources.Job Description 1. Supervises and coordinates the maintenance, security, and groundskeeping programs with those of other hospital departments. 2. Establishes and updates with respective supervisor's job descriptions, work procedures, and performance schedules for this division. 3. Interprets policies and objectives of hospital organization to the division and administers same. 4. Determines work which cannot be performed by hospital maintenance staff. 5. Participates in conferences and contractual agreements with outside agencies who are performing maintenance, or security work for the hospital. 6. Estimates cost of repairs and determines order in which repairs and new installations will be made. 7. Supervises the installation of equipment and interprets blueprints and technical specifications. 8. Recommends to COO, SVP of Operations future needs of maintenance and groundskeeping programs, including organization and function. 9. Ensures that all requirements, local, state and national for general and mechanical construction, maintenance and replacement are adhered to by the hospital. 10. Supervises emergency and major repairs, remodeling and reviews new construction. 11. Insures that there is sufficient and competent personnel in this division and has ultimate selection, recommends promotion, defines duties, establishes patterns of delegated authority, and responsibility of personnel in this division. 12. Makes final decision concerning whether any hospital equipment is defective or non-defective. 13. Formulates plans for directing in-service training programs for maintenance and groundskeeping areas. 14. Approves orders of supplies for division through purchasing and also requisitions or purchases replacement parts as necessary. 15. Represents division on various hospital committees as directed by the COO, SVP of Operations. 16. Is responsible for the maintenance of firefighting equipment. 17. Keeps abreast of new developments pertaining to division and initiates work simplification and other research projects in establishing better systems and methods for division. Monitors development of new technologies and recommends implementation strategies to provide a vision for future direction. 18. Ensures that effective working relationships and communications are maintained within the division and with other hospital departments. 19. Core elements: Maintains twenty-four-hour responsibility and accountability for operations of assigned department. a. Supports hospital mission and values statement, strategic plan and vision, and department service statement/department philosophy. b. Develops, administers, and evaluates department goals and objectives which are consistent with hospital goals and objectives. c. Develops, administers, and evaluates department policies and procedures which are consistent with hospital policies and procedures. Interprets and administers hospital policies and procedures. d. Maintains responsibility and accountability for effective fiscal management of department including: - operating expenses - human resource allocation - capital expenditure - revenue maximization e. Assures competency of staff and self by: - timely completion of performance appraisals - staff attendance at mandatory continuing education training - implementation of disciplinary actions when appropriate - completion of hospital, departmental and position specific orientation for new or transferred associates - professional development of self - personal compliance and departmental compliance to hospital-wide minimum standards of performance f. Accountable and responsible for Performance Improvement (PI) in department. Fosters culture of continuous performance improvement and hospitality. - develops formal PI plan and monitors trends - assures implementation of PI concepts in the evaluation of departmental processes - eliminates waste within department and empowers associates to do the same - facilitates teamwork intra and interdepartmentally. Removes barriers that impede service to the customer across and within department(s). - fosters pride of workmanship among hospital associates - established a culture to "do the right thing the first time" - integrates risk management and patient safety concepts into PI - established a culture supportive of the Hospitality program g. Assures a safe working environment for self and others through: - compliance to infection control/universal precaution standards - hazardous materials management - disaster/fire safety management - adherence to administration of general safety policy and procedures h. Communicates effectively and in a timely manner with: - customers - hospital associates - administration - other department managers - medical staff - written/verbal reports - remains visible/accessible to all departmental associates i. Supports community focus of hospital through participation in community events and activities. Education and Experience Required: 1. A minimum of a two-year certification or preferably a college degree in Engineering, Bachelors preferred, but not required 2. Five years' experience with at least two of these years in a supervisory capacity. 3. Strong background in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, electronics, and heating and steam-fitting operations.
