DESCRIPTION

The Assistant Nurse Manager supports the day-to-day operations of Interventional Radiology at an assigned primary site (La Jolla, Hillcrest, or East Campus), with the expectation of providing cross-coverage at other IR sites as operational needs require. Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager, the Assistant Nurse Manager supports safe, high-quality patient care while upholding professional nursing standards in accordance with the ANA Code of Ethics. The Assistant Nurse Manager supports the day-to-day operations of East Campus Interventional Radiology, Cath Lab, Vascular Access, and Imaging Nursing. Under the general supervision of the IR Nurse Manager, and with a dotted-line relationship to East Campus on-site leadership, the Assistant Nurse Manager supports safe, high-quality patient care while maintaining strong operational and interdisciplinary partnerships across the campus. This role supports pre-, intra-, and post-procedural nursing teams and is structured with an expectation of approximately 60% clinical practice and 40% administrative responsibilities, based on operational needs. Key Responsibilities
- Support daily clinical and operational workflows across IR, Cath Lab, Vascular Access, and Imaging Nursing.
- Provide direct clinical care in IR and Cath Lab settings as needed, supporting pre-, intra-, and post-procedural patient care.
- Support daily staffing operations, including real-time staffing adjustments, resource allocation, and workload balancing across multiple nursing teams.
- Review and approve timecards, assist with schedule oversight, and support staffing coverage needs.
- Serve as an on-site leadership presence, managing patient and staff escalations, including patient service recovery and workflow disruptions.
- Actively coach and support staff through real-time feedback, performance support, and reinforcement of policies, procedures, and professional practice standards.
- Assist with staff meetings, staff engagement initiatives, and fostering a collaborative, accountable culture focused on quality and teamwork.
- Support on-site regulatory compliance and readiness, including adherence to institutional policies, accreditation standards, and campus-specific workflows.
- Identify operational and clinical process gaps and assist with corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Participate in recruitment and hiring, including interviews, onboarding, and orientation of nursing staff.
- Perform administrative responsibilities aligned with the 40% administrative expectation, while maintaining clinical credibility and visibility.
- Collaborate closely with physicians, nursing leadership, and interdisciplinary partners-including PACU, anesthesia, the operating room, pharmacy, inpatient units, and East Campus leadership-to support coordinated care delivery, patient throughput, and a positive patient and staff experience.
- Maintain a strong working relationship with East Campus on-site leadership through regular communication, coordination, and alignment with campus priorities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Nursing.
- RN License issued by the State of California.
- BLS and ACLS at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six (6) months of hire date.
- Two (2+)years of combined experience in Interventional Radiology (IR) and Cath Lab. If insufficient applicant pool, the department may consider candidates with two (2+) years of experience in either IR or Cath Lab.
- Must have excellent skills to communicate and influence effectively with all levels of staff, physicians, patients and external constituents, both verbally and in writing.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to manage multiple levels of information and responsibilities and to quickly assess moderately complex problems to develop potential solutions.
- Must be able to function in a fast-paced environment, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and consistently demonstrate empathy and kindness to all staff and patients.
- Must adhere to UCSD Health Medical Center (C.A.R.I.N.G.) Standards of Performance, and demonstrate the characteristics of professionalism in attire, attitude, conversation, behavior and attentiveness to others.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- One (1) or more years of RN leadership role experience to include Charge experience, Supervisor or manager experience.
- Moderate Sedation Certified.

Pay Transparency Act Annual Full Pay Range: $132,600 - $259,800 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%) Hourly Equivalent: $63.51 - $124.43 Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
