DESCRIPTION

The Assistant Nurse Manager supports the day-to-day operations of Interventional Radiology at an assigned primary site (La Jolla, Hillcrest, or East Campus), with the expectation of providing cross-coverage at other IR sites as operational needs require. Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager, the Assistant Nurse Manager supports safe, high-quality patient care while upholding professional nursing standards in accordance with the ANA Code of Ethics. Key Responsibilities
- Support daily clinical and operational workflows to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care.
- Manage daily staffing needs, including real-time adjustments, resource allocation, and workload balancing.
- Review and approve timecards and assist with schedule oversight.
- Monitor and support staff productivity and operational efficiency across procedural areas.
- Serve as an on-site leadership presence, managing patient and staff escalations, including patient service recovery and workflow issues.
- Provide real-time coaching and performance support to staff, reinforcing policies, procedures, and professional practice standards.
- Assist with staff meetings, staff engagement initiatives, and fostering a collaborative, accountable team culture.
- Support on-site regulatory compliance and readiness, including adherence to institutional policies and accreditation standards.
- Identify process gaps and assist with corrective actions and continuous improvement efforts.
- Participate in recruitment and hiring processes, including interviews, onboarding, and orientation.
- Perform administrative responsibilities and provide direct patient care when operational needs require, maintaining clinical competence and credibility with the team.
- Collaborate with physicians, nursing leadership, and interdisciplinary partners, including PACU, anesthesia, the operating room, clinical trials, pharmacy, inpatient units, and ancillary services, to support coordinated care delivery and patient throughput.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Nursing.
- RN License issued by the State of California.
- BLS and ACLS at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six (6) months of hire date.
- Two (2+)years of experience in Interventional Radiology (IR). If insufficient applicant pool, the department may consider candidates with two (2+) years of experience in Procedural Nursing.
- Must have excellent skills to communicate and influence effectively with all levels of staff, physicians, patients and external constituents, both verbally and in writing.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to manage multiple levels of information and responsibilities and to quickly assess moderately complex problems to develop potential solutions.
- Must be able to function in a fast-paced environment, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and consistently demonstrate empathy and kindness to all staff and patients.
- Must adhere to UCSD Health Medical Center (C.A.R.I.N.G.) Standards of Performance, and demonstrate the characteristics of professionalism in attire, attitude, conversation, behavior and attentiveness to others.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- One (1) or more years of RN leadership role experience to include Charge experience, Supervisor or manager experience.
- Moderate Sedation Certified.

Pay Transparency Act Annual Full Pay Range: $132,600 - $259,800 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%) Hourly Equivalent: $63.51 - $124.43 Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
