Your Role

Our healthcare work is holistic, and research-driven, creating meaningful experiences for patients, families, staff, and providers alike. Join Gensler's Healthcare Practice and help shape the future of care through environments that elevate wellbeing, empower clinical teams, and support new models of delivery. We're seeking a seasoned Project Architect with deep healthcare expertise-someone who can navigate complex regulations, translate clinical needs into intelligent design, and lead teams with clarity. Guided by our Radically Human philosophy, Gensler designs for the individual, the community, and the broader region. We're looking for partners who share our commitment to advancing human health and driving positive change through design.

In this role, you will partner with the Sr. Project Manager and Design Director to guide the technical design and documentation for ground-up and/or interior renovations requiring deep knowledge and experience with HCAI, collaborate closely with clients and consultants, and develop smart architectural strategies that improve performance and human experience across healthcare settings. You'll also mentor emerging technical designers and champion excellence across every phase of work. Ideal candidates bring deep experience in healthcare architecture in California, strong technical and coordination skills, fluency in healthcare codes and FGI guidelines, and a passion for creating environments that advance health, wellness, and meaningful human impact. Join a global team redefining healthcare through research, innovation, and a radically human approach to design-help us shape what's next.

What You Will Do

  • Manage client communication, project coordination, and collaboration with general contractors, ensuring full documentation alignment with structural, MEP, lighting, AV, landscape, civil, and specialty consultants

  • Lead technical communication and coordination across the project team, clients, vendors, contractors, consultants, and permitting agencies

  • Conduct code and accessibility reviews and prepare clear, comprehensive reports

  • Provide technical guidance and innovative solutions to resolve complex design and construction challenges

  • Prepare and maintain all project documentation, including construction documents, project manuals, and specifications

  • Mentor and guide team members on construction documentation standards, constructability, and code requirements

  • Conduct on-site observations and produce accurate field reports.

  • Manage construction-phase services, including processing submittals, RFIs, substitution requests, and related documentation

  • Interface with building and permitting officials throughout permitting and construction, HCAI and local jurisdictions

  • QA review of project deliverables

Your Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture with 8+ years of relevant healthcare experience

  • Licensed Architect in the State of California

  • Direct HCAI project experience

  • Strong technical expertise, including experience resolving complex design and construction issues

  • Broad knowledge of building codes, standards, and U.S. industry regulations, with direct experience on design build projects

  • Proven ability to produce clear, thorough, and accurate technical documentation

  • Extensive experience coordinating full project documentation with structural, MEP, civil, and specialty consultants

  • Ability to effectively manage client communication, multidisciplinary teams, and multiple projects simultaneously

  • Proficiency in Revit (required)

  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office Suite

  • Strong communication and relationship building skills, with the ability to work effectively across diverse team structures
