Position Summary:
The Surgical Clinical Research Core at Boston Children's Hospital advances the Department of Surgery's research mission by providing access to research tools, supporting study design, and coordinating multiple ongoing projects. Current initiatives include the Prospective Multisite Study of Quality of Life in Pediatric Intestinal Failure, Pilonidal Care Center, Hidradenitis study, and Pectus Clinic.

We are seeking a full-time Clinical Research Assistant to join our collaborative research team. This individual will work closely with investigators, clinicians, and research staff to support the successful conduct of clinical research studies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Recruit and consent patients and families for clinical research studies through in-person interviews and written communication.
  • Provide clear, accurate information about study objectives, procedures, risks, and benefits; respond to participant and family inquiries promptly.
  • Evaluate eligibility of prospective participants according to study protocols and inclusion/exclusion criteria.
  • Prepare and administer surveys; collect, review, and enter data from electronic medical records (EPIC), databases (e.g., REDCap), and paper-based sources.
  • Abstract and manage clinical data, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory and institutional standards.
  • Monitor and review informed consent documentation and data collection processes for consistency across studies.
  • Identify and resolve missing or incomplete data for ongoing and developing projects.
  • Perform data analysis and prepare summaries and reports for research team review.
  • Conduct literature reviews to support study design, protocol development, and new research initiatives.
  • Assist with abstract preparation and manuscript drafting for submission to peer-reviewed journals.
  • Attend and actively participate in weekly research team and provider meetings.
  • Train and mentor newly hired research assistants, as needed.
  • Work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary clinical and research team.

Minimum Qualifications
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in STEM, Psychology, or a related field is required.
Experience/ Skills:
  • Strong interest in clinical research and academic medicine.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interact professionally and compassionately with patients, families, and clinical staff.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Prior experience in clinical research or healthcare settings (preferred).

The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.

Any base pay offer provided depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job-related factors.
