Position: JSVP Intern

Department: Volunteer Services

Schedule: Part Time

POSITION SUMMARY:

Seeking a summer intern to assist the Volunteer Services department with BMC's 2026 Junior Summer Volunteer Program (JSVP). The JSVP program consists of educational sessions with BMC's medical professionals, as well as on-site service opportunities for motivated high school students looking for career exploration.

Qualified intern candidates will be interested in furthering education related to healthcare as well as deepening their administrative expertise. The intern will be responsible for various organizational aspects related to BMC's 2026 Junior Summer Volunteer Program and collaborate closely with the Volunteer Services Program Manager leading up to and throughout the summer. The ideal candidate is proficient in executing a plan and meeting deadlines, as well as being flexible in the face of needed changes.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

High School Diploma or GRE equivalent, currently enrolled in an associate or bachelor's degree program

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Familiarity/ desire to create graphics and newsletters
  • Requires proficiency and ability to operate Microsoft Suite

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Additional language experience preferred
  • Leadership experience preferred
  • Experience managing students preferred
  • Commitment to engaging students from diverse backgrounds and ensuring their success in the program.
  • Interest in learning and growing public speaking and leadership skills

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:


  • Recruit student volunteers entering their Junior and Senior year of high school to join JSVP. Recruiting methods include, but are not limited to, conducting school visits, connecting with high school administration and providing written and verbal information that can be given to students
  • Represent BMC and the Junior Summer Volunteer Program and answer questions about the application process
  • Collaborate on application creation and review applications as they come in.
  • Assist in scheduling candidate interviews and send reminder information as applicable and attend interviews.
  • Assist in sending out orientation documents that must be completed upon acceptance in the program and ensure all documents are completed before the start of the program
  • Assist with all logistical aspects of the program, including but not limited to

    • Supporting and managing the onboarding process for students
    • Volunteer Placement for Students
      • Engaging with departments and supervisors to plan out the students volunteer role

    • Booking spaces for the program
    • Supporting the design & implementation of the Graduation Celebration


  • Assist in organizing team-building opportunities for the student cohort to come together included but not limited to
    • Group volunteer opportunities, potlucks, origami creations, etc.

  • Monitor attendance; make efforts to encourage students to ask questions and prompt conversation
  • Maintain program enthusiasm throughout the summer so that more students successfully complete the program, and work to build meaningful connections between the JSVP participants and BMC employees
  • Work with the Program Manager to develop students throughout the program
  • Collect and analyze pre- and post-program surveys to gauge relative effects and takeaways from 2026 program
  • Construct the weekly newsletter sent out to participants in the program with creativity.
  • Assist with recognition for the end of summer reception, wrap-up of summer program and collecting data from the 2026 JSVP
  • Disperse certificates of completion to program participants, as well as congratulatory letters written by the Volunteer Services team.
  • Aid the Volunteer Services team with additional administrative responsibilities, including volunteer programs at BMC-Brighton and BMC-South, as needed

Compensation Range:

$0.01- $0.00

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer.
