Microsoft
$139,900.00 - $274,800.00 / yr
United States, Washington, Redmond
Feb 19, 2026
Overview

The Microsoft 365 Core Platform team is seeking a Principal Product Manager to drive platform-level impact across one of Microsoft's most critical systems, powering core Microsoft 365 experiences including Copilot. This role leads performance and scale initiatives across the M365 Substrate Platform, which operates at massive scale to support AI-first workloads and high-volume productivity scenarios.

This position sits at the intersection of platform architecture, customer experience, engineering execution, and business outcomes. You will shape the strategy for improving end-to-end performance and scalability across complex, distributed systems, influencing how efficiently compute resources are used and how quickly new capabilities ship as demand and model complexity grow.

This is a highly visible role with deep executive engagement, broad cross-company influence, and ownership of platform-defining, high-impact problem spaces. You will operate as a technical product leader who moves seamlessly between strategy, data, and execution, driving clarity and results in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.

Microsoft's mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.

Responsibilities
  • Define and drive the platform-level strategy for performance and scale across Microsoft 365, identifying the highest-leverage opportunities to improve latency, scalability, and system efficiency.
  • Use deep platform telemetry, workload data, and customer signals to guide prioritization, tradeoffs, and long-term architectural investments.
  • Partner closely with engineering leaders, architects, and product teams across Microsoft 365, Windows, and Azure to align execution and deliver measurable outcomes.
  • Influence senior stakeholders through clear, data-backed narratives and executive-ready communication in high-visibility forums.
  • Drive execution across multiple teams by navigating ambiguity, anticipating risks, and maintaining momentum on complex initiatives.
  • Set the bar for principal-level product management by modeling clarity, rigor, and impact, and by mentoring other product managers.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience in product/service/program management or software development
    • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven ability to solve complex, ambiguous problems using technical depth, data, and strategic thinking.
  • Experience driving platform-level initiatives that span multiple teams and services.
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, cloud platforms, and large-scale services.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and align diverse teams around shared goals.
  • Experience working with Microsoft 365 services and or Copilot-powered experiences.
  • Track record of delivering measurable improvements in performance or scalability.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex topics into clear, compelling narratives.
