OVERVIEW
Merrick & Company is looking for a Senior Mechanical Equipment Designer to join a team of engineering and design personnel serving the Nuclear Services & Technology Business Unit in our Albuquerque, NM or Los Alamos, NM. This group specializes in the design of prototype/one-off custom equipment, gloveboxes, hot cells, specialty research equipment and custom-designed, remotely operated mechanisms for handling radioactive and hazardous materials. This is a full-time position. This position is a collaboration role working with a small team of designers. The senior designer works directly with the team to produce 3D models, drawings, and fabrication packages of custom equipment, independently and with direction from the project engineer. Typical equipment includes containment systems (gloveboxes, hot cells, cleanrooms), material handling equipment, small scale process piping & equipment, furnace systems, metal working systems (mills, lathes, rolling machines) and pressure vessels. Pay range for this position is $40.25 - $52.00 per hour. Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. WHAT YOU'LL DO Detailed design activities include preparation of component, subassembly, and main assembly Creo (Pro/E) models; creating detailed fabrication drawing packages; evaluating and selecting purchased components; creating detailed Bills of Materials and completing equipment datasheets.Establishes model structure and drawing tree architecture for distinct deliverables and is responsible for establishing and maintaining file naming conventions and Windchill folders.Directs the activities of less experienced team members to produce final product.Provides checking support for deliverables.Design activities are conducted following regimented quality assurance/quality control procedures. Additional activities include holding team meetings and instructional presentations, developing best practices in CAD usage, mentoring, coaching, and conducting performance reviews for team members.
