Payroll Analyst

We are seeking a highly analytical and detaildriven Payroll Analyst who excels in process accuracy, compliance, and system integrity. This role goes beyond transactional payroll processing-ideal candidates will contribute to controls testing, audit readiness, regulatory interpretation, and crossfunctional compliance initiatives, similar to expectations seen at BioMarin and Quest Diagnostics where payroll analysts play a key role in internal controls and regulatory adherence.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll Processing & Regulatory Compliance



  • Execute accurate, timely, multistate payroll processing, including wages, overtime, bonuses, deductions, taxes, and garnishments, consistent with industry benchmarks.
  • Interpret and apply federal, state, and local payroll laws, wageandhour rules, tax regulations, and courtordered actions (e.g., garnishments) as required in highaccountability roles
  • Maintain complete compliance documentation for audits, regulatory review, SOX controls, and internal risk assessments.
  • Support yearend tax processes (W2s/T4s, reconciliations, taxability testing), applying standards


Internal Controls, Testing & Risk Mitigation



  • Perform scheduled payroll system testing, including:


    • regression testing
    • configuration validation
    • tax update testing
    • earnings/deductions taxability verification


  • Maintain and enhance internal controls over payroll processes, including segregation of duties, dual approvals, and documented review checkpoints, consistent with competitor expectations.
  • Manage and validate the timekeeping system, analyzing exceptions, identifying anomalies, and ensuring data integrity
  • Draft, update, and maintain SOPs, process maps, and payroll control narratives to support compliance, internal audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Partner with IT, Finance, and Security on system access reviews, change management protocols, and periodic control testing.


Audit Support & Compliance Partnering



  • Act as a primary payroll contact for internal audit, external audit, SOX testing, workers' compensation audits, and regulatory inquiries, addressing requests in partnership with Finance and Legal
  • Produce auditready payroll reports, reconciliations, and documentation that demonstrate control effectiveness and regulatory adherence.
  • Conduct rootcause analysis and corrective action plans for compliance findings, process breakdowns, or tax discrepancies.
  • Partner with HR Compliance to ensure payroll policies align with company policies, labor laws, leave laws, and dataretention requirements.


Data Analytics, Reporting & Continuous Improvement



  • Prepare and reconcile detailed payroll reports supporting Finance, HR, auditors, and leadership, consistent with crossfunctional expectations in peer biotech and diagnostics organizations.
  • Provide insights on payroll trends, tax impacts, costing, headcount changes, and compliance exposure areas.
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization, automation, and control enhancement


Employee Support & CrossFunctional Collaboration



  • Provide timely and accurate support to employees, managers, and HR partners, consistent with the high customerservice expectations
  • Coordinate on all lifecycle changes (new hires, terminations, leaves of absence, benefits adjustments), ensuring full compliance with regulatory and system requirements.


Qualifications

Required



  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 2-5 years of multistate payroll experience with advanced understanding of payroll laws, wageandhour compliance, and tax regulations.
  • Experience with payroll audits, controls testing, or SOX compliance.
  • Proficiency with payroll systems such as Dayforce
  • Strong Excel skills and familiarity with validating large data sets.


Preferred



  • Experience in biotech, diagnostics, healthtech, or other regulated industry environments
  • Experience designing or performing payroll control testing, process mapping, or audit walkthroughs.
  • Knowledge of HRIS integrations, rolebased access controls, and payroll system configuration.
