Job Summary

The Discover Musical Theater Residency program supports 92NY School Engagement in the Arts by leading high-quality, in-school theatre instruction for NYC Kindergarten and 1st Grade classrooms.

Teaching Artists lead four dynamic, in-school classroom sessions per assigned class, guiding students through an active, hands-on exploration of the 92NY Theater for Young Audiences Musical Messy Millie with a focus on both Theatre Skills and Social Emotional Learning.

Teaching Artists collaborate closely with 92NY staff, classroom teachers, and school administrators to ensure instruction is accessible, inclusive, culturally responsive, and tailored to each classroom community. Classroom placements are designed to align with the artist's strengths and expertise to maximize student engagement and learning.



Job Responsibilities Include

    Deliver four engaging, student-centered lessons per participating class.
    (2-5 classes per visit, 45-60 minutes each)
  • Lessons take place during school hours (8:00 AM-2:30 PM) between April 13-May 12 on Monday and/or Tuesdays.
  • Mandatory curriculum training with 92NY staff will be held in early April 2026.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and inspiring learning environment that encourages participation, creativity, and joy in theater-making.
  • Communicate weekly and proactively with 92NY staff and classroom teachers to ensure smooth program delivery and address successes and challenges.
  • Arrive punctually and fully prepared for each school visit.
  • Document each class through photos and student testimonials, in alignment with program guidelines.
  • Represent 92NY and the School Engagement Department with professionalism, warmth, and enthusiasm.
  • Attend all required training sessions, meetings, and professional development sessions.
  • Maintain open, consistent communication with program staff-seeking support when needed and contributing to a collaborative teaching community.


Experience, Education, & Skills Desired

  • 3-5 years of teaching experience in public school or equivalent settings
  • Strong background in Theater or Dance Education
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and re-engage large classroom groups with varied learning needs.
  • Commitment to inclusive, student-centered instruction and fostering positive classroom culture.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and classroom management skills.
  • Interest in working within a pre-developed curriculum/
  • Pre-existing fingerprint clearance through the NYC and New York State Departments of Education preferred.


Work Environment & Requirements

Must be available during designated NYC public school hours on Monday and Tuesday mornings from April 13-May 12, 2026.
