Role:

  • Under general supervision and in accordance with established policies and procedures, this role promotes the credit union's commercial products and services within Apple's geographic market area. The individual is responsible for providing comprehensive financial solutions to small businesses with annual revenues of up to $5 million and credit needs of less than $500,000, while also actively managing and strengthening those relationships. This position will focus on growing an existing book of business and prospecting for new members. The primary objective of this role will be to deepen and enhance existing member relationships.
  • The ideal candidate should possess extensive knowledge of small business banking, business banking, commercial real estate (CRE) lending, SBA loans, government contract lending, and commercial and industrial (C&I) loans.
  • This position will collaborate closely with the loan origination, credit, and servicing teams. This individual will be the primary liaison between the branch and call center staff. This person will respond to referrals from the branch, other loan officers, and call center staff and serve as the primary point of contact for all website inquiries.
  • This role involves developing and maintaining relationships with small business clients, assessing their financial needs, and providing customized banking solutions. Responsibilities include pre-screening member loan requests, processing and closing loan applications, and gathering the necessary documentation in accordance with existing policies and procedures.
  • This individual will request, review, and spread the company/guarantor financial information. Understand credit analysis (cash flow analysis, debt service calculations, LTV, and collateral analysis). On an ongoing basis, this position will monitor, review, and evaluate ongoing compliance with financial covenants and reporting requirements. In addition, have a thorough understanding of the annual review process.
  • The position seeks loans that align with the organization's risk profile and strategic goals while managing an existing client portfolio. A strong work ethic and an entrepreneurial attitude are essential.
  • The role also requires adherence to the principles of The Apple Way, which include Teaming Up, Serving with Purpose, Challenging Yourself, and Taking Ownership. It is important to remain aware of and comply with credit union policies, procedures, and regulations related to the Bank Secrecy Act. Additional duties may be assigned by the VP of Commercial Services.

Functions & Responsibilities:

  • The primary responsibility of this position is to originate commercial and industrial (C&I) loans, which include working capital lines of credit, equipment loans, term loans, business credit cards, and vehicle financing. Additionally, this role will identify members' needs for commercial real estate financing.
  • The position will also focus on increasing new deposits, both interest-bearing and non-interest-bearing, while cross-selling treasury management services.
  • As the primary relationship manager, you will oversee a portfolio of small business customers with annual gross sales ranging from $500,000 to $5 million and credit needs of less than $500,000.
  • Build and nurture strong relationships with small-business clients and develop strategic partnerships with Centers of Influence (COIs), including CPAs and local associations.
  • Effectively manage a portfolio of small business loans in accordance with an established market strategy and within Apple Commercial Services underwriting guidelines.
  • This individual will meet with both prospective and existing members who are applying for commercial loans, deposit accounts, and membership. The goal is to gain a thorough understanding of the members' needs, desires, and capabilities in order to recommend suitable solutions. This position will also structure and negotiate loan terms that align with the members' needs and the credit union's risk and pricing policies.
  • Pre-qualifies and conducts market and credit analysis on potential clients before submitting to underwriting. Evaluates the applicant's financial situation, creditworthiness, and cash flow to assess the viability of granting the loan, in accordance with Apple's small business underwriting guidelines.
  • Provide guidance on various commercial lending and deposit products and identify opportunities to refer clients to other internal departments: Mortgage, Consumer Lending, or Apple Financial Services.
  • Facilitates referrals to other commercial services staff as needed, including cash management, commercial real estate (CRE), merchant services, and deposit services. Familiarize yourself with the standard policies, practices, and procedures of commercial services, and gain a solid understanding of various concepts and procedures within the field.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices. Have a working knowledge of NCUA Part 723 Business Lending Regulations.
  • Participate in community organizations and build relationships with centers of influence (COIs). Plan and prepare presentations for engagements with different economic development groups. Actively engage in the community, civic activities, professional associations, and networking events.
  • Maintains the highest ethics in originating and closing loans to prevent lender liability issues
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure seamless loan processing and servicing.

Experience:

Minimum 5-7 years of experience in commercial lending and small business or business banking, with a focus on C&I loans.

Education:
BA or BS degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.

Interpersonal Skills:

Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Ability to interact effectively in group and individual situations at educational or credit union functions/events

Other Skills:

Strong understanding of underwriting and structuring, loan documentation, and business depository accounts.

Strong understanding of financial statements, credit analysis, and loan structuring.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift 25 pounds, if necessary, and utilize standard office equipment, including but not limited to: PC, fax, copier, telephone, postage machine, etc.
