Position Summary

Our Quick Coupling Division is looking for an Engineer Manager. This position coordinates the total engineering focus of the Product Engineering department, as directed by staff level management, and transforms the information into a comprehensive plan. The Engineering Manager is to use his/her ability and background knowledge to guide development of the conceptual information into new products and improvement of existing products. Product designs resulting from this department's efforts must be profitably manufacturable and perform well in comparison to competitor products.

Scope/ Supervision and Interaction:

The Engineering Manager must take the lead in directing and delegating resources to meet cost targets, implementation timelines, production support requirements, field problems with products under his/her control, management and administration of the department. Subordinates include Engineering Supervisor, Engineers, Designers, and Drafting personnel. Provides active support to the Research Lab and Tool Room development areas. This role reports directly to the Division Engineering Manager.

Liaison includes Product Managers to provide technical support in the area of product design and development; Manufacturing Engineering to facilitate incorporation of current manufacturing practices into new designs and improve manufacturability of existing products; Quality Control to assist in the resolution of manufacturing problems; Purchasing Department to assist in qualification of new vendors and in resolving technical problems with vendors. Maintain an aggressive risk avoidance program when designing new products and reduce inherent risks that are found to be associated with existing products.

Responsibilities

The Engineering Manager is given the responsibility to improve existing products and develop new product derivatives of existing products, to meet specific requirements; has the authority to utilize the resources at his/her disposal in such a way as to achieve the specific requirements; shall recommend resource allocations and participate in the establishment of specific requirements.

  • Direct or delegate the direction for the preparation of complete design layouts, production drawings, models, sketches and diagrams.
  • Direct the preparation of design concepts to meet product specifications.
  • Direct the activities of engineering change control on production drawings.
  • Coordinate the activities of supporting personnel (Engineers and Drafters on all projects assigned). Actively support initiatives.
  • Know and apply current Engineering practices in light of Manufacturing and Quality Control considerations.
  • Make efficient use of and help develop relevant standards.
  • Supervise the development and maintenance of Gantt charts for projects.
  • Participate in the defense of product liability lawsuits when required.
  • Make and/or direct the calculations involving engineering sciences (static, dynamics) and other associated subject.
  • Direct liaison between vendors and purchasing department when required.
  • Supports the activities of the Product Managers, Manufacturing Engineering personnel and the Quality Assurance Manager.
  • Keep abreast of competitive product lines and market developments.
  • Perform the administrative functions of budgeting, spending control, salary/performance reviews, capital planning and participate in the tooling program requirements.
  • Develop policies and procedures as required.
  • Cooperate with Parker E-Commerce Initiatives.
  • Identify and operationalize cost leadership opportunities.
  • Leverage Parker HPT (High Performing Team) framework to drive engineering team goals that supports the Corporate WIN strategy.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (BS) (or Professional Engineer (PE) certificate) in engineering or a science technical discipline. Master's degree (MS or MBA) preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the job typically acquired through 5+ years of related experience.
  • Prior management/supervisory or project engineering responsibility of 2-3 years preferred.
  • Has thorough knowledge of the technical engineering discipline or domain, and products or systems. Understands and is fully proficient with project management, engineering documentation requirements, and engineering analysis tools.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of program management, the product development cycle, and understanding of cost accounting principles and methods (e.g. earned value management). Experience with program and design reviews and/or other customer requirements and industry practices.
  • Ability to foster teamwork and inclusion with diverse groups of employees. Ability to guide and develop the team by providing challenging assignments and through effective coaching, feedback, recognition, and skill assessment and training.
  • Thorough knowledge of industry and regulatory standards, policies, and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and present status, actions, recommendations, and other technical information with clarity and precision. Maintains open communication within the team and other business areas. Ability to respond to significant inquiries from customers, regulatory agencies, or marketing/sales teams.
  • PC Literate (Autodesk Inventor, MS Word, Excel, Access, Project, Outlook, & Ansys preferred).

Competitive Compensation

  • Pay Range: $105700 to $185000 annually
  • Participation in Annual Incentive Program
