We work at the intersection of research and engineering-advancing orchestrator reasoning, training next-generation models, and shipping impactful, model-driven experiences in Microsoft 365 Copilot.

The Responsible AI group focuses onidentifying, measuring, mitigating, andmonitoringResponsible AI risks in AI-generated content spanning text, image, audio, video, and multimodal content. We are looking for anApplied Scientist to join our team and contributeto the development of scalable AI artifacts for ResponsibleAI identification, measurement, and mitigation across Copilot scenarios.

We are looking to hire an Applied Scientist who specializes in linguistics and Responsible AI. In this role, you will work with an interdisciplinary group of engineers, applied scientists, linguists, and product managers to ensure that the innovative products and machine learning solutions Turing delivers to tens of millions of users every month are safe and reliable. You will help design and build the socio-technical foundations that enable Responsible AI at scale. This includes risk systematization, dataset creation, and metric design. Your work will have a direct impact on product quality, user trust, and the safety of AI systems used by millions of people every day.

Responsibilities
  • Integrate linguistic concepts into Responsible AI applied science efforts.
  • Master a broad research area and understand relevant research techniques.
  • Act as a team expert on industry trends, products, and advances, applying this knowledge to influence product needs.
  • Review business and product requirements, incorporate research, and provide strategic direction for problem solving.
  • You will also ensure scientific rigor, support the development of methods, and apply your expertise to support business impact.
  • Develop scalable frameworks and resources to identify, measure, and mitigate AI risks.
  • Build red-teaming playbooks and guidelines and datasets for risk evaluation that generalize across diverse systems, use cases, and deployment contexts.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Linguistics, Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND relevant internship experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research) OR Master's Degree in Linguistics, Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Linguistics, Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
    • OR Master's Degree in Linguistics, Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 1+ years of experience putting linguistics and responsible AI principles into practice as part of a AI product team.

Applied Sciences IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $84,200 - $165,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $109,000 - $180,400 per year.
