About the Job

Teach hands-on plant science programming that may include Arboretum field trips, in-classroom outreach experiences, and summer day camps

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality programs that connect children to plants and the natural world
  • Communicate positively and professionally with parents, teachers, volunteers, and other adults
  • Prepare, set up, and manage program supplies; restock materials for the next instructor
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment
  • Delegate tasks and provide guidance to volunteers
  • Provide feedback to support continuous program improvement
  • Serve in a mix of lead teaching and assistant roles, depending on program needs

Work Schedule

  • Commitment: On call /as needed
  • Hours: Flexible; schedule varies seasonally and week to week

This position is located at the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in Chaska, MN

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education, horticulture, natural sciences or a related field
  • Experience teaching in a classroom or informal education setting
  • Ability to teach with energy, clarity, and flexibility
  • Enthusiasm for working with children, including patience and a sense of humor
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to walk, bend, and lift up to 20 pounds; work both indoors and outdoors
  • Successful completion of a background check
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record

Preferred Qualifications

  • Willingness to play games, use puppets, and get messy
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $19.00 - $21.00 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
