Job Summary


The Vice President of Strategy and Business Development for the UCSF Health Network serves as the senior strategic and business development leader for the range of entities within the UCSF Health Network Business Unit (community hospitals, physician foundation, ambulatory sites, and affiliate relationships), functioning as the chief strategy officer. Reporting to the UCSF Health Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer, the Vice President is responsible for defining, advancing, and executing a cohesive Network Business Unit strategy that supports UCSF Health's enterprise priorities while responding to distinct market, growth, and partnership dynamics across the Network Business Unit.

Operating in a highly matrixed academic health system, the Vice President partners closely with Network Business Unit executive leadership, department chairs and chiefs, operational leaders, peer strategy executives, and affiliate partners to ensure strategic clarity, alignment, and forward momentum.
The Vice President has primary responsibility for business development, growth strategy, and external partnerships for the UCSF Health Network Business Unit. The role leads the identification, evaluation, and advancement of new clinical programs and services, geographic expansion opportunities, affiliate relationships, and other growth initiatives while also overseeing the ongoing strategic management of existing Network partnerships. This leader maintains an active pipeline of growth and business development opportunities, works through affiliate operational and integration issues in collaboration with internal stakeholders, and ensures that new opportunities are rigorously assessed, prioritized and positioned for execution. The role is designed to move beyond advisory strategy, with direct accountability for driving progress across the full growth cycle.

In addition, the Vice President plays a key role in shaping the Network's strategic planning framework and ensuring alignment with UCSF Health's broader enterprise strategy and transformation agenda. The role chairs a Network growth committee that convenes cross-functional leaders to advance growth initiatives with discipline, pace, and accountability, and serves as a trusted strategic advisor to senior leadership.

Leads the development and execution of strategic planning and business development initiatives for the UCSF Health Network Business Unit, ensuring alignment with UCSF Health's enterprise strategy while responding to evolving market opportunities and partnership dynamics.

Provides executive leadership for Network Business Unit growth strategy, including affiliate partnerships, geographic expansion initiatives, and service line development opportunities. Oversees identification, evaluation, and advancement of new partnership opportunities while ensuring the strategic management and performance of existing Network affiliate relationships.

Collaborates across clinical, academic, operational, and administrative teams to advance the Network's strategic priorities and ensure alignment with enterprise transformation initiatives. Oversees strategic planning processes, growth initiatives, and partnership development activities that strengthen UCSF Health's community network and expand access to high-quality care.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF.

The salary range for this position is $400,000-$500,000 (Annual Rate).

The UCSF Health Network Business Unit plays an important role in bringing UCSF care to the broader Bay Area as well as connects UCSF Health with a broad community of healthcare providers, affiliates, and partner organizations to expand access to high-quality clinical care across the region. Through distributed ambulatory locations as well as a network of affiliated hospitals, physician organizations, and community partners, UCSF Health extends its clinical expertise and academic mission to serve diverse communities while strengthening coordinated care delivery across the healthcare continuum.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in business, healthcare administration, or related discipline.
  • Advanced knowledge of healthcare strategy, business development, partnership development, and market assessment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead strategic planning and growth initiatives within complex healthcare systems.
  • Proven ability to identify, evaluate, and implement partnership and affiliation agreements.
  • Highly advanced quantitative and qualitative analytical skills with the ability to translate market and financial analysis into strategic recommendations.
  • Advanced leadership and influencing skills with the ability to collaborate with senior executives, physicians, and external partners.
  • Strong financial and business planning skills including development of business cases and ROI analysis.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills with experience facilitating executive-level strategy discussions.
  • Advanced ability to direct, influence and motivate staff, project team members, senior executives, physicians and leaders at partner institutions.
  • Advanced ability to lead business planning, innovation development, and implementation for a multi-faceted health system.
  • Highly advance knowledge of strategic business planning, development, and market assessment,
  • Highly-advanced quantitative and qualitative analytical skills. Advanced conceptual skills.
  • Advanced project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Highly-advanced verbal and written communication, facilitation, and presentation skills including the ability to positively interact with executives, providers, and staff at all levels.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience working in academic medical centers or integrated health systems.
  • Experience managing healthcare partnerships, affiliate networks, or regional provider collaborations.
  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or closely related field.
