Established in 1909, University of Wisconsin-Madison's first agricultural research station. The Spooner Agricultural Research Station is the northernmost station and specializes in Agronomy and Horticulture crop production research.

This position works independently, under general supervision, providing comprehensive support to the Station Superintendent and ARS Financial Manager and supplemental support to professors, researchers, and staff from the UW CALS departments to facilitate research and facility use at the Spooner Agricultural Research Station (SARS), Washburn/Barron County UW-Extension support, and remote support of the Rhinelander Agricultural Research Station.

This position oversees and manages all aspects of office activities to ensure that functions of budgeting, financial reporting, and invoicing are done in an accurate and efficient manner. Furthermore, this position includes administrative duties and provides support to staff regarding payroll and human resource policies.

The Rhinelander Agricultural Research Station has been a home for University potato breeding research for over 50 years. It remains a primary site for ongoing research related to potato production. Many studies mapping the basic nature of the genetics of the potato have been carried on at this facility, resulting in national and international recognition through numerous publications and the release of new and improved potato varieties including Antigo, Red Beauty, Superior, Wischip, Oneida, Rhinered, Snowden , MegaChip, Lelah, Tundra, Nicolet, Accumulator, Oneida Gold & Red Endeavor.

Key Job Responsibilities:

Assist with management and expenditure tracking of grant projects for the Rhinelander Agricultural Research Station. Suggest controls and maintain compliance with UW and federal policies

  • Serves as a first point of contact for individuals and groups, provides basic organizational information via phone, in person and through other communication mediums, and routes more complex inquiries to the appropriate entities
  • Collects, analyzes, and prepares various communication materials from established sources utilizing technology mediums
  • Sends, receives, copies, and distributes communications to the appropriate entities according to established policies and procedures under general supervision
  • Schedules logistics and secures resources for meetings, conferences, travel, and work unit operations
  • Maintains established methods and organizational systems directed at the maintenance of electronic/physical records related to work operations according to established policies and procedures

Compensation:

The anticipated hourly pay range for this position is $20.20 - $26.72/hr. However, final salary will depend on experience and qualifications. Required Qualifications:

  • Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Workday, or similar platforms.

  • Experience using spreadsheet and word processing tools to maintain data, generate reports/other correspondence (e.g., Microsoft Excel and Word).

  • Experience applying organizational skills, including document filing and record-keeping.

  • Demonstrated customer service experience and communication skills including experience providing conference room coordination.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using WordPress (or equivalent CMS) for website content updates.

  • Ability to manage and schedule social media posts to promote agricultural research activities.

  • Experience working/training in an agricultural or research station setting.
