DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Educational Guidance Counselor, you will orient new inmates to available programming and conduct interviews to define their academic, career, and higher education goals. Your role will involve administering and interpreting tests to recommend appropriate academic or vocational placements and collaborating with staff to develop individualized educational plans. You will monitor student progress, manage enrollment rosters, and maintain meticulous records in accordance with regulations and standards. Additionally, you will provide critical reentry support by assisting inmates with resume writing, mock interviews, and job search strategies. You will be responsible for verifying the completion of mandated requirements and addressing performance or behavioral issues, including making recommendations for class removals when necessary. Furthermore, you will support the academic community by coordinating graduation ceremonies to celebrate student achievements and successful program completion.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:45 AM to 3:45 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of professional experience in educational guidance and educational counseling, and a bachelor's degree in the social sciences, behavioral sciences, education, social work, counseling, or a closely related field; or
  • Two years of professional experience in educational guidance and educational counseling, and four years of paraprofessional experience in education, social work, or counseling; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training, which includes one year of professional experience in educational guidance and educational counseling.
Other Requirements:
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
