Job Summary

This position manages the clinical research unit and the contracts and grants unit for the Departments of Radiology and of Radiation Oncology. This position also oversees quality assurance operations for the Departments of Radiology and for the Explorer Molecular Imaging Center (EMIC). This position oversees both Departments' contracts and grants, and recharge operations rate revenue generation as well as direct oversight and responsibility for the Departments' research enterprise. Responsibilities include coordinating research projects, ensuring alignment of short-and long-term departmental initiatives and goals, overseeing the contracts and grants and clinical and research leaders, ensuring timely reconciliation of all grant accounts and in accordance of federal, state and university guidelines, clinical trials quality, regulatory compliance and audits. Coordinates and directs the overall administration and outcomes of multiple research and clinical studies, including training all staff and interacting with sponsors, principal investigators, UC Davis Health Compliance Office, UC Davis Health Institutional Review Board (IRB), the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center (UCDCCC), the Food and Drug Administration and other regulatory entities as appropriate. Designs and implements policies and procedures to assure that the program is in compliance with local, state and federal requirements. Oversees the implementation of research projects including patient enrollment, data collection and management. #CA-SB

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Society of Clinical Research Association - CCRP certification.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • At least five (5) years of prior leadership and supervisory experience with skills to effectively delegate tasks, set performance standards, evaluate performance, train, and motivate staff.
  • At least five (5) years of experience in a medical imaging environment (clinical and/or research, preferably both) is essential.
  • Extensive clinical trials and research support experience in radiology and at least one of oncology, pathology, cardiology or neurology is essential, preferably in an academic healthcare environment.
  • Expertise in overseeing and performing high-level analytical work, analyzing complex information, performing independent research, presenting complex data in a way that facilitates decision-making and making strategic recommendations.
  • Demonstrated management skills supervising, maintaining and developing clinical staff within the study team and acting as a mentor for professional staff and conducting reviews and performance evaluations.
  • Ability to manage, motivate, train and develop staff with experience and skills different to those of the position holder.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Ability to quickly gain, apply and disseminate knowledge of policies and procedures pertaining to grant submission, grants management, research compliance, administration, payroll, billing grids, standard of care, and personnel in a rapidly-changing institutional and national environment.
  • Broad theoretical and operational knowledge of clinical research concepts, federal, state, and local laws and regulations, and industry requirements regarding the proper conduct of medical research and clinical trials: e.g., IRB, RUC, BUA, hazardous materials compliance, FDA.
  • Broad knowledge of all phases of clinical research, from study startup through closeout and primary publication and presentation.
  • Experience working with research subjects and the clinical trial process (consent, deviations, CAPAs).
  • Advanced knowledge of medical terminology, abbreviations and an understanding of requirements relating to abstraction of information from various sources including electronic medical records.
  • Excellent communication, verbal, written and listening skills.
  • Strong skills with computer software and programs such as but not limited to: MS Office Suite, Outlook, timekeeping program, job description management system, SharePoint and other related systems.
  • Organizational skills to organize, plan, coordinate and set priorities effectively; multi-task and adapt to changing priorities on multiple projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in clinical science/management or a related field and/or an equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training.
  • Formal education in finance.
  • Experience with UC Davis Health on-line systems and databases, such as UC Path, AggieEnterprise, Cayuse, Cognos, EPIC, AggieBudget and AggieTravel is preferred.
  • Leadership and/or experience including short- and long-range planning to support program sustainability is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of hospital, HR and UC policies and processes.
  • Understanding of relevant issues with regard to union/institutional relationships and agreements at UC.
  • Knowledge of relevant external regulations.
  • Skills with financial, radiopharmaceutical, drug and risk management solutions in use at UC Davis Health.
  • Knowledge of University budget, financial, intramural and extramural fund sources, business practices, policies, procedure and financial systems.
  • Experience with UC accounting, purchasing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, personnel, equipment inventory and business management practices and procedures.

Department Overview

The Department of Radiology is a large academic and clinical department within the School of Medicine which is responsible for teaching and training of residents, medical students, and clinical fellows, as well as both basic and creative clinical scholarly investigations. Radiology maintains a substantial amount of research, both basic and clinical trials, and provides services for interdepartmental research studies.
