Job Summary

The Veteran Benefits Enrollment Coordinator II provides operational and student-facing support for military-affiliated students utilizing Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and Department of Defense (DOD) educational benefits. Reporting to the Director of Military & Veteran Success, this position plays a key role in the certification, enrollment monitoring, and compliance processes necessary to ensure timely and accurate administration of veterans' education benefits. The Coordinator provides comprehensive one-on-one guidance to veterans and their dependents, assists with enrollment and registration troubleshooting, supports compliance efforts, and collaborates with campus partners to promote student success. This role contributes to daily office operations, supports engagement initiatives, and helps foster a welcoming, veteran-friendly campus environment.

Job Description

Typical duties my include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for enrollment certifications, adjustment, amendment, and termination of VA and DOD education benefits in accordance with federal regulations, under the direction of the Director and designated School Certifying Official.
  • Monitors VA education records, including degree programs, registration, schedule adjustments, and tuition changes, and standards of progress to ensure timely reporting and continued student eligibility.
  • Maintains accurate, audit-ready records in compliance with VA, federal, state, and university regulations, including completion of required VA training.
  • Collaborates with the Bursar's Office to verify VA education benefit payments, resolve discrepancies, reconcile accounts, and troubleshoot payment issues.
  • Provides individualized advising and customer service to veterans and dependents regarding VA benefits, tuition assistance, financial aid, enrollment processes, and university procedures.
  • Serves as a resource to students, faculty, and staff by answering questions, providing referrals, and facilitating communication related to veterans' benefits and enrollment requirements.
  • Assists in implementing federal and state veterans' education benefit programs while ensuring adherence to established policies and procedures.
  • Supports the Director in monitoring regulatory updates and applying changes to certification processes to maintain institutional compliance.
  • Collaborates with Admissions (including Non-Traditional and Transfer teams) and other campus partners to support recruitment, enrollment, and transition of military-affiliated students.
  • Contributes to the assessment and improvement of service delivery processes to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and student satisfaction.
  • Assists with maintaining the University's FL Collegiate Purple Star designation and fulfilling required federal and state reporting obligations.
  • Supports outreach initiatives, workshops, orientations, and educational programming to inform students, faculty, and staff about military education benefits and available resources.
  • Represents Military & Veteran Success at on- and off-campus events, including orientations, recruiting activities, and veteran-related programs, which may include occasional evening or weekend participation.
  • Supports the Military & Veteran Success office in maintaining a welcoming, veteran-friendly space that fosters peer engagement, community connection, and academic success.
  • Participates and engages in evening or weekend university events, development activities and relevant meetings, trainings, and committees to remain current on veterans' education benefits and best practices.
  • Assists with the processing and appropriate use of Annual Reporting Fee (ARF) funds in accordance with established guidelines.

Additional Job Description

.Required Qualifications:

  • This position requires either eight years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
  • VA Certification or ability to obtain 30 days after hire.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five years experience in higher education.
  • Experience working in financial aid or as a VA certifying official.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and institutional regulations governing veterans' benefits and financial aid compliance.
  • Knowledge of higher education enrollment processes, academic policies, and financial aid operations.
  • Knowledge of military culture and the unique challenges faced by veterans and military-affiliated students in higher education.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry, records maintenance, and reporting.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in using student information systems (e.g., Banner), Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint), and VA-specific platforms.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple time-sensitive tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion in handling confidential and sensitive student information.
  • Ability to work independently to complete assignments as well as part of a collaborative team.
  • Ability to interpret and apply complex policies and procedures from multiple agencies (VA, Department of Education, FGCU, etc.).
  • Ability to represent the department and university professionally during events, presentations, and community outreach.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
  • Proven ability to think strategically and approach challenges with creativity.
  • Demonstrated track record of reliability, meeting goals, and holding oneself accountable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience working effectively across teams.
