The Materials Manager will have responsibility for all raw materials and finished goods at the manufacturing location. This includes the ordering of materials, distribution of manufactured products, flow of materials through the warehouses, coordinating inbound and outbound delivery schedules, and inventory accuracy. Evaluate processes to identify areas of improvement to employee safety, quality of product, and to the overall operational cost efficiencies. Must interface daily with the operations teams to identify/resolve problems, implement solutions, and coordinate schedules. Conduct studies in operations to maximize work flow and spatial utilization within the facility. The successful candidate should have a background in lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies. Must have experience with administering company policies. Be a decision maker and problem solver for the site. Will be required to make critical decisions to maximize efficiency and manpower and to troubleshoot issues as they occur. Supervise and provide assistance to department leads daily to support warehouse and production activities. Manages team of 5-15 personnel that are responsible for forklift operations, scheduling inbound and outbound trucks, cycle counting activities, and ordering of materials to support production activities. Manages employee issues such as attendance monitoring, performance goals and resolves minor disputes. Ensures plant management is notified of any employee conduct requiring corrective or disciplinary action. Write, review, and update work instructions to support consistent performance. Regularly audits work of team to ensure it meets expectations for safety, quality, and productivity. Measuring and reporting the effectiveness of the department goals and activities. Evaluate and adjust staffing levels, shift schedules, and OT requirements as needed to meet production demand requirements. Trains and coaches on appropriate methods regarding safety, quality, and work processes, etc. Upgrades own skills by attending courses, seminars, etc. Ensure DOT and customs compliance Investigates shipping errors and implements preventive actions Build and maintain partnerships with our distributors and vendors to foster loyalty and commitment to our mutual benefit Identify possible contentious issues and develop action plans in concert with our vendors or distributors. These positive relationships allow us to weather the storms of uncertain supply and/or delivery issues with as little damage to the schedule as possible Provides input to define requirements and specifications for equipment needed in warehouse activities. Maintain good working relationship with manufacturing, maintenance, and quality control personnel. Participate In Continuous Improvement Projects and contribute to the success the lean manufacturing effort Implement continuous improvement projects to address quality, material flow, through-put and productivity improvements. Ensures all safety, environmental and regulatory guidelines and rules are known and followed; all required safety equipment is available and used as prescribed. Promptly addresses issues related to safety and actively coaches and reinforces safety expectations with team. Communicate and enforce safety regulations and company policies to employees. Manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste per regulations as required. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree required ...experience in materials management, scheduling and coordinating incoming and out coming goods, warehouse management for shipping/receiving, and managing all warehouse inventories for multi-buildings a plus. Previous leadership providing direct oversight of employee assignments, evaluation of performance, accountability for results, and coordination with other departments in a manufacturing or distribution environment 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment and/or in the paint and coatings industry Experience with Microsoft Office Suite; SAP strongly preferred Experience in expediting, inventory management, physical counts, and bill of materials Excellent verbal and written communications Ability to work with and continually develop vendors/ contractors( trucking and fleet drivers) Experience leading and managing a team Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment with both salaried and hourly personnel to meet the needs of the operators, the program and the business. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Enjoys being on the floor hands on with all teams to drive performance improvements Highly motivated and high initiative Ability to work independently, set priorities, and drive results at the same time able to work on a production team driving team goals Computer skills to include: Microsoft Project, Access, Excel, PowerPoint and Word, and SAP Physical effort and dexterity: Frequency of physical activity throughout shift: Frequent sitting, standing, bending/twisting of neck and waist, squatting and kneeling Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects from floor, conveyor, vehicle, table, or overhead location Climbing/descending stairs
