Responsibilities

The Learning Technology Support Consultant (BSA 3) provides technology-based analysis of digital learning practices, processes, and problems within the Haas School of Business. This position exists to bridge the gap between pedagogical goals and technical execution by developing solutions that involve process design, data and information architecture, and software integration. The role is responsible for creating specifications for learning systems, validating requirements against instructional needs, and designing automated workflows to enhance operational efficiency. This position exists to ensure the technical resilience of the "foundation-layer" ecosystem (LMS and Video CMS) while planning and executing unit integration and user acceptance testing for emerging tools, including AI-driven platforms.

LMS and Core Ecosystem Administration Serves as a primary functional lead for the Berkeley Haas LMS (bCourses/Canvas) and Panopto, ensuring operational stability.

  • Manages the setup and maintenance of third-party integrations (LTIs), ensuring compliance with University security and privacy requirements (FERPA).
  • Proactively identifies and resolves complex system issues and provides advanced technical troubleshooting to maintain high service levels for faculty and students.

Faculty Support and Instructional Consultation Coordinates and facilitates faculty workshops and one-on-one consultations to support the adoption of innovative instructional tools.

  • Maintains the Haas Digital knowledge base and prepares strategic communications to share best practices.
  • Collaborates with Learning Experience (LX) designers to assess the technical feasibility of instructional designs, ensuring pedagogical goals are supported by stable technology.

Project Coordination and EdTech Implementation:

  • Coordinates the technical rollout of established AI initiatives and emerging educational tools.
  • Provides the technical infrastructure and support needed for faculty pilots, ensuring accessibility and security vetting is completed.
  • Manages technical relationships with vendors to ensure Haas-specific requirements are addressed during implementation phases.

Learning Analytics and Data Reporting Develops and maintains data reporting frameworks to measure the adoption and engagement levels of technology initiatives.

  • Benchmarks usage statistics using LTI and native platform analytics.
  • Creates data visualizations and dashboards (via Tableau or similar tools) to provide insights that support school-wide decision-making regarding the "One Haas" toolset.

Virtual Instruction and Technical Support: Provides technical oversight for virtual classroom platform configurations, specifically Zoom and Panopto integrations.

  • Collaborates with AV Engineering to ensure alignment between physical classroom hardware and instructional software.
  • Partners with support specialists to assist in the delivery of live online sessions, ensuring reliable performance and lecture capture health.

Professional Learning and Growth

Required Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in Learning Management Systems (LMS).
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace or similar productivity software.
  • Proficiency in HTML/CSS for content formatting within Canvas and other web environments.
  • Familiarity with scripting (e.g., Python, JavaScript, or Apps Script) to automate course creation workflows and improve operational efficiency.
  • Demonstrated experience in leveraging AI tools to automate personal workflows and enhance the quality of technical deliverables.
  • Technical understanding of AI-driven educational tools, including the ability to support RAG-based tutoring systems, no-code application builders, and the implementation of secure AI environments.
  • Ability to participate in the technical evaluation of new tools for pedagogical benefit.
  • Strong proficiency in data collection and analysis, including experience interacting with REST APIs (e.g., Canvas API) to extract data and automate reporting tasks.
  • Demonstrated skill in using visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, or Looker Studio) to report on system adoption and educational impact.
  • In-depth understanding and skill in process and systems requirement documentation standards, such as Use Case modeling, User Story creations and narrative description.
  • Working knowledge of LTI (Learning Tools Interoperability) standards to manage third-party integrations.
  • Thorough knowledge of student data privacy regulations (FERPA) and/or can quickly learn University security policies regarding institutional information.
  • Demonstrated skill in managing the full technical lifecycle of technology implementations, including advanced test planning, unit integration, and user acceptance testing (UAT).
  • Consistently refines work processes and project methodologies through the adoption of modern productivity tools and AI-integrated workflows.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaborate with individuals and groups from a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.

  • Technical Support & Service: Experience using and troubleshooting web conferencing tools (preferably Zoom) and ticketing platforms such as ServiceNow or Zendesk.
  • Ability to work with the Virtual Classroom Support Specialist to assist in live session delivery.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrating a desire to establish and maintain positive & professional working relationships with colleagues, students and team members.

Education/Training

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in Learning Management Systems (LMS), Canvas (bCourses), and integrated video content management systems such as Panopto.
  • Familiarity with instructional design frameworks (e.g., ADDIE) and pedagogical principles; proficiency in data manipulation languages (e.g., SQL, Python) for complex data cleaning.
  • Certified Canvas Educator or Canvas Administrator certification.
  • Certification in Tableau (Desktop Specialist or Data Analyst) or Google Data Studio.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted annual salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $82,800.00 - $116,300.00.

  • This is a full-time (40 hours/week), career position that is eligible for UC Benefits.
  • This is an exempt monthly-paid position.
