Job Title: Senior City Planner (Part-Time) Location: City of Soap Lake Department: Planning & Development Reports To: Mayor Schedule: Part-Time (20–25 hours/week) Salary Range: $70,000 - $80,000 per year (DOE) Job Type: Part-Time / Contract / Remote Position Overview: The City of Soap Lake is seeking an experienced Senior City Planner to join our Planning & Development Department on a part-time basis. This role involves advanced professional planning work focused on guiding the physical, social, and economic growth of the community. The Senior Planner will provide strategic input on key planning initiatives, mentor junior staff, and lead complex projects from concept through implementation. Key Responsibilities: · Lead or manage comprehensive and area-specific planning projects, such as zoning updates, community plans, and urban design initiatives. · Conduct research, data analysis, and impact assessments related to land use, transportation, environmental sustainability, and housing. · Prepare and present detailed reports, maps, and recommendations to city officials, planning commissions, and community stakeholders. · Review development proposals and ensure compliance with applicable ordinances, regulations, and planning principles. · Facilitate public engagement processes including workshops, hearings, and stakeholder meetings. · Collaborate with internal departments, government agencies, consultants, and the public. · Mentor junior planning staff and provide guidance on best practices and professional development. Qualifications: · Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Public Policy, or a related field. · Minimum 5–7 years of progressively responsible experience in urban or regional planning. · AICP certification preferred. · Strong knowledge of local government planning processes, land use law, zoning, and environmental regulations. · Excellent communication, analytical, and project management skills. · Proficiency with GIS, Adobe Creative Suite, and/or planning software is a plus. Preferred Skills: · Experience with community engagement and equity-focused planning. · Knowledge of climate resilience, housing policy, or transportation planning. · Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects on a flexible schedule.
