We are currently looking for experienced, motivated, and creative individuals to fill our Senior Safety Engineer position within the Health, Safety, and Risk Engineering Center of Excellence team in Houston, TX.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the enterprise Subject Matter Expert (SME) for technical safety engineering standards, risk-based frameworks, and HSE program requirements
  • Lead and participate in hazard identification and risk assessment (HIRA) methodologies including Bow-Tie analyses, HAZOPs, and What-If studies; provide engineering recommendations on safeguards, barriers, and risk reduction measures
  • Provide technical safety engineering input during front-end design reviews and conceptual engineering phases to identify and resolve safety-critical design issues; act as the embedded safety engineering representative on assigned capital and operational projects
  • Execute consequence modeling and dispersion analysis using industry-standard and proprietary simulation tools to evaluate hazard extents and inform design decisions
  • Lead facility siting studies and quantitative risk assessments (QRA), including managing third-party technical consultants and reviewing deliverables for technical accuracy
  • Provide technical guidance to enterprise functional teams on safety engineering requirements, regulatory compliance obligations, and implementation of Oxy Oil & Gas operating management system (OMS) standards
  • Support the engineering development and deployment of risk analysis tools, models, and methodologies to quantify and track process and operational risk exposures
  • Conduct systematic self-assessments and technical audits of the enterprise safety management program to evaluate conformance with corporate policies, engineering standards, and procedures
  • Develop and deliver technical safety engineering training programs for enterprise personnel across operational and functional disciplines
  • Lead, support, or participate in technical root cause analysis (RCA) and incident investigations with a focus on engineering and barrier failure assessment
  • Support the development and implementation of risk mitigation strategies using inherently safer design (ISD) principles and layers of protection analysis (LOPA)
  • Assist in compiling and communicating the enterprise risk register and safety risk profile to Oxy Oil & Gas corporate safety management
  • Position requires travel to field locations, estimated at 30%

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (preferably Fire Protection, Safety, Mechanical or Chemical)
  • 15+ years relevant experience in safety and risk engineering (preferably in oil and gas operations)
  • Strong knowledge of Management of Change (MOC)
  • Proficient in various risk methodologies include risk bowties using BowtieXP
  • Proficient in Process Hazard Analysis Facilitation (PHAPro preferred)
  • Knowledge of and experience in OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM)
  • Knowledge of Fire Protection Systems (desired)
  • Knowledge of Facility Siting and Layout Analysis (desired)
