Position Summary:

The Nutrition Services Team Leader manages production, assembly and service of patient, customer, and catered meals with maintaining service and sanitation standards.



Education and Experience:



  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Supervisory work experience of 2 years or more.
  • Required to obtain and maintain current Washington DC Food Protection Manager Certificate.


Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Customer Relations/Interpersonal Skills: a. Is courteous and respectful towards patients, visitors and co-workers. b. Is responsive towards patients, visitors, and co-workers. c. Dresses appropriately and displays proper image. d. Maintains good rapport with co-workers throughout the hospital.
  • Infection Control/Sanitation: a. Complies with all local, state, and federal guidelines for food safety and sanitation. b. Enforces department sanitation schedule c. Evaluates food temperatures throughout the meal periods and takes appropriate action to correct problem.
  • Employee Relations: a. Conducts pre-service meetings daily and in-services as assigned. b. Develops work schedules and assigns job duties. c. Evaluates employee performance with management approval. d. Makes recommendations concerning disciplinary actions to manager. Participates in disciplinary conferences. e. Mentors and orients new employees. f. Documents employee attendance. g. Makes recommendations that will be considered in the decisions of hiring, firing or advancement of staff.
  • Quality Control: a. Monitors food quality on a continuous basis throughout meal periods and at catered events. b. Evaluates food quality using daily taste/temperature panels. c. Evaluates food quality using patient tray assessments. d. Takes appropriate action to improve quality based upon assessments.
  • Safety a. Executes hospital and department disaster plan. Team Leader, Nutrition Services Page 2 of 3 b. Secures department and follows cash handling policies. c. Obtains and maintains CPR certification d. Implements appropriate action in the event of an emergency.
  • Cost Control a. Monitors portion control b. Operates and programs cash registers according to departmental policy. c. Assembles cash deposits and cash reports according to departmental policy. d. Monitors labor hours.
  • Critical Thinking/Problem Solving a. Encourages staff to solve problems. b. Performs independent problem solving. c. Decision-making is logical and deliberate d. Corrective action is practical and effective.
  • Meal Service a. Monitors timely meal service. b. Utilizes the Affinity computer system to generate reports for patient meal service. c. Checks trays and patient menus for accuracy per dietary prescription. d. Assist with catering setup as needed.

Full-Time (40 hours)

Salary Range: Minimum 24.97/hour - Maximum 41.22/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
