$139,900.00 - $274,800.00 / yr
United States, California, Mountain View
Mar 14, 2026
Overview

CoreAI is at the forefront of Microsoft's mission to redefine how software is built and experienced. The One Engineering System (1ES) team enables the world's best engineering teams with world-class tools and systems that help them ship products their customers love.

Microsoft is adopting GitHub as its primary engineering platform, bringing AI-powered development capabilities to every engineering team while maintaining enterprise security and compliance. The GitHub Inside Microsoft (GIM) team is leading this transformation, migrating tens of thousands of developers from Azure DevOps to GitHub Enterprise Cloud with data residency, hosted entirely within Azure infrastructure. The platform operates in a hybrid model: source code repositories and pull requests move to GitHub, while CI/CD pipelines (Azure Pipelines), Azure Artifacts, and Azure Boards remain in Azure DevOps.

We are looking for aPrincipal Product Manager - CoreAI to drive the product strategy, adoption, and operational excellence of GitHub as Microsoft's engineering platform. You will own the end-to-end experience for engineering teams migrating from Azure DevOps to GitHub, from organization provisioning and repository governance to developer onboarding and collaboration. This is a deeply hands-on role: you must be comfortable configuring GitHub organizations, defining repository policies, and troubleshooting real migration issues alongside engineering.

This role follows Microsoft's flexible work model, with an expectation of in-person collaboration at least three days per week to foster alignment, innovation, and team connection.

Microsoft's mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond. If you meet the qualifications and are excited about the mission, we encourage you to apply!

  • Identify short- and long-term investment opportunities across GitHub organization management, migration tooling, and developer experience.
  • Synthesize customer feedback, telemetry, and market intelligence into prioritized investments with clear OKRs and KPIs.
  • Evaluate and communicate tradeoffs across security, usability, and migration velocity to stakeholders and business teams.

GitHub Organization Management:

  • Own the hands-on configuration and governance of GitHub Enterprise organizations, including org creation, team structures, repository policies, and branch protection rules.
  • Partner with security and compliance teams to maintain SDL processes, audit logging, and data residency requirements within the GitHub Enterprise environment.

  • Lead the migration experience for engineering teams moving from Azure DevOps to GitHub, including repository migration, Git history, pull request history, and pipeline rewiring.
  • Develop and refine readiness assessments, decision trees, prerequisites checklists, and team onboarding playbooks.
  • Engage directly with engineering teams across Microsoft to drive adoption, resolve blockers, and capture feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure Azure Pipelines integrate seamlessly with GitHub repositories, validating that existing YAML pipelines work without rewrites after migration.
  • Define success criteria and track migration health metrics: migration velocity, time-to-onboard, developer satisfaction, and support ticket volume.

Cross-Organizational Alignment:

  • Align partners across GitHub, Azure DevOps, 1ES, and Core AI to deliver integrated outcomes in the hybrid model.
  • Represent the GitHub Inside Microsoft platform in executive reviews, engineering leadership forums, and internal customer engagements.
  • Build relationships with GitHub product and engineering teams to ensure Microsoft's needs shape the enterprise GitHub roadmap.
