Staff Counsel

Staff Counsel will support the Company's national warranty litigation function by managing automotive warranty litigation matters and partnering with internal clients and outside counsel to achieve efficient, consistent case outcomes. This role involves hands-on case management across a high-volume docket, support of early resolution efforts, and coordination of key litigation activities (including discovery), with a focus on managing risk/exposure and cost of defense.

Job Responsibilities:



  • Manage assigned warranty litigation matters within a national, high-volume docket, including case assessment, investigation, and oversight of key milestones through resolution
  • Partner with outside counsel on case strategy, motion practice, settlement evaluation, and reporting; help ensure adherence to litigation guidelines and budgets
  • Support the Warranty Early Resolution Program by identifying suitable matters, coordinating required information, and assisting with execution and tracking of outcomes
  • Coordinate discovery activities as needed, including document preservation/collection, written discovery tracking, deposition support, and coordination with internal stakeholders
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners (e.g., Customer Care, Engineering, Quality, and Field teams) to gather facts and documents to support defense and resolution
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of national strategies designed to manage risk/exposure and cost of defense


Basic Qualifications:



  • Juris Doctor degree with a strong academic background
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in an outside law firm setting, preferably in a litigation practice
  • Admitted to practice law in at least one state



Preferred Qualifications



  • Undergraduate degree or experience in engineering or technical field or interest in automobile mechanics
  • Experience developing litigation strategy, including early resolution approaches and cost-containment initiatives
  • The ideal candidate will possess the ability to handle a high volume of cases while also having the ability to demonstrate leadership to develop strategies to manage litigation using creative, and cost-effective strategies
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse cross-functional teams
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously to critical deadlines
