Department Overview
The Electric Compliance Assurance department is part of the Electric Risk & Compliance organization, where together we will embed compliance and risk in all that we do and achieve regulatory outcomes that support the business' needs. The work of this department is critical in our efforts to find compliance challenges and identify areas of risk so that we can fix them. The main functions of this department are identifying areas of compliance risk and opportunities to mitigate those risks, including through incident reporting and investigations, overseeing Electric Operations and Power Generation CAP, and validating the controls on the organization.
Position Summary
PG&E is seeking an experienced business professional to be a member of the Electric Compliance Controls Validation Team. The Controls Validation Team is responsible to develop quality management plans for process improvements to assure compliance quality control measures are implemented and effective.
This role will have a high level of visibility with PG&E leadership and will support one or many aspects of the Controls Validation Team's scope, with a focus on operating effectiveness (field review). A strong applicant will have deep technical, regulatory, and operational expertise, and bring a structured approach to identify external regulatory requirements, benchmark internally and externally, validate process controls, and summarize findings. The work strengthens PG&E's safety culture and compliance posture and reinforces PG&E's commitment that Everyone and Everything is Always Safe, advancing enterprise learning, transparency, and continuous improvement across investigations.
Location of this position is flexible within PG&E service territory and will require travel to other areas around PG&E's service territory. This position is hybrid, traveling to the field, working from your remote office, or working from your assigned office based as the business needs, working (4) 10 hour days per week.
The selected candidate must live within PG&E's service territory.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of thejob posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will bebased on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience,market value, geographic location, and internal equity.Although we estimatethe successful candidate hiredinto this rolewill be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decisionwill be made on a case-by-casebasis related tothese factors.
A reasonable salary range is:
Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area) $118,000.00
Mid Base Salary (Bay Area) $153,000.00
Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area) $188,000.00
Minimum Base Salary (California) $112,000.00
Mid Base Salary (California) $145,000.00
Maximum Base Salary (California) $179,000.00

This position reports to the Manager, Electric Compliance Controls Validation
Job Responsibilities and Expectations
- May help to develop/refine the process to identify external regulatory requirements, benchmark internally and externally, validate process controls, and summarize findings.
- May help to develop controls or metrics to assist in monitoring and evaluating the success of compliance controls.
- Leads and mentors others in cause analysis and identifies linkages to business objectives.
- Develops and modifies quality assurance audit procedures and methodology. Benchmarks audit effectiveness and corrective action follow-up, identifying best practices and sharing lessons learned.
- Develops written reports for upper management, summarizing audit findings, observations, and trends.
- Leads/coordinates department special projects.
- Reviews for accuracy the information or reports to be submitted to regulatory agencies. Champions quality assurance issues with the regulatory agencies, may act as contact for quality assurance issues with regulatory agencies.
- Provides Subject Matter Expertise of all oversight/audit functions.
- Measures compliance with field methods, procedures, processes and standards by conducting oversight activities/audits of completed work and/or business processes, ensuring adherence to and accountability for established work methods, procedures and processes through performing QA and QC audits.
- Takes a lead role in working with the business process owners to develop oversight/audit plan, including in formation and data gathering, interview schedule, site visit schedule, associated logistics, and other audit related activities.
- Recommends process improvements as needed to meet department and/or company objectives. Promotes performance improvement throughout the organization.
- Works effectively in a matrixed organization, working with directors and managers across organizations to provide expert opinion and influence decisions.
- Effectively maneuver through complex organizational situations without disruption, routinely resolving escalations to Director-level, Vice President-level and above.
- Travel to other facilities for audits and meetings up to 60% of time with occasional overnight stays.
Background Qualifications
Minimum
- High School Diploma or GED
- Seven (7) years of auditing or quality experience with 3 years of experience as a lead auditor OR 3 years of auditing or quality experience and 5 years of experience in the field performing maintenance, operation, engineering or other execution of work in electric, gas and/or power generation.
- Travel required up to 60% with occasional overnight stays. Periodic week-long 24X7 on-call support
Desired
- Master's Degree or equivalent experience.
- Three (3)+ years of auditing or quality experience
- Experience leading audits
- Understanding of California and Federal regulatory programs related to Electric Operations.
- Deep knowledge of operations, maintenance, and engineering program processes and procedures.
- Proven ability to prepare materials for and effectively communicate/present highly complex findings to senior and executive leaders with clarity, gain consensus on path forward.
- Proven ability to interview personnel at all levels to validate process and controls.
- Knowledge of work methods and procedures in order to accurately identify risks and areas for improvement.
- Advanced ability to analyze data/information and recognize trends, and to conduct causes analysis and develop strategies for corrective actions.
- Field experience with electric, gas or power generation.
- Leadership or facilitation training (e.g., crucial conversations and facilitative leadership).
- Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or equivalent
- Completion of professional auditor training
- Human Factors Analysis & Classification System (HFACS) Certification
- Causal Evaluation Certification (e.g., Barrier Analysis, Fault Tree, 5-Whys, HFACS)
- Certification in Causal Evaluation (e.g., Conger/Elsie, Tonex, Cocrane (Firebird), Apollo, ASQ, TapRooT, ISO9000, Sologic, Cause Mapping, or equivalent)
