JOB SUMMARY

The Quality Inspector audits critical path processes and inspects results against specified requirements. Additionally, the Inspector understands Statistical Process Control and the application in an Engineer-To-Order manufacturing environment. The Quality Inspector also helps the organization meet ISO standards in documentation and calibration requirements.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assesses product conformance to customer requirements and evaluates product quality via tollgate inspections. Inspections and acceptance criteria may include various measurements, visual inspections, tactile/touch/feel, sound or other similar requirements.
  • Verifies product quality through electrical tests such as ratio, high-pot and megger tests.
  • Takes oil samples for DGA, PCB, oil and air particle counts, moisture content, and dew point.
  • Audits various documents, processes and products to determine the effectiveness of operator inspections and also to assess compliance to standards and engineering requirements. These audits will also verify product conformance to customer requirements.
  • Gathers data and performs analysis to determine the root cause of problems identified through, nonconformances, Field Defect Reports, audits and other assessments. This will be a high impact responsibility of the Specialist. Helps eliminate and prevent problems.
  • Identifies non-conforming materials and documents, investigates, labels, segregates, repairs, and resolves issues.
  • Records data, creates reports and provides inspection findings using various computer applications and programs.
  • Completes required paperwork including checklists, audits, reports and other documents.
  • Validates processes that cannot be monitored by inspection activity through scheduled sampling of the internal oil and air systems, oven temperature control, vapor phase performance, etc.
  • Applies SPC controls to monitor and control a process to ensure that it operates at its full potential to produce conforming product.
  • Works with Customers, Purchasing, Engineering, Manufacturing and Suppliers to communicate requirements and findings, verify processes, and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Helps train new employees or retrain employees found deficient during audit activities.

  • The nature of this position requires abroad base of knowledge and/or skills including: product and process knowledge, problem identification and analysis, writing and reporting skills, PC skills, training skills, quality management skills, leadership and influencing skills.
  • Communication skills - communicate effectively and efficiently cross functionally and to a variety of leaders by verbal and written methods
  • Effective listening skills.
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills are a must.
  • Ability to build relationships with departments leaders and employees.
  • Ability to follow instruction, apply effective time management skills, and complete projects and tasks in a timely manner.
  • Requires an individual with a high level of self-direction.
  • Must have ability to work in confined spaces. Working conditions are generally good.
  • Often works at heights up to 15' or more and occasionally work at heights up to 30' or more. Work varies from working at ground level to working in, on top of, and around the sides of the transformer unit.
  • Must have the ability to learn/operate portable man-lifts and other machinery.

Required Education / Experience

At least five years of related experience is preferred in a transformer technical process work.
High School Diploma or equivalent

Preferred Education / Experience

A 2-year technical degree in an engineering related field and ASQ certification as a quality technician is desirable.

Physical Demands

Must be able to stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to occasionally sit, walk. Climb, balance, push, pull, carry, work below waist level and foot use.

Working Conditions

Shop-floor located on large manufacturing plant.
