Overview

The Research Data Analyst is responsible for identifying, accessing, managing, analyzing, and reporting data to support the needs of the institution including, but not limited to, research and quality improvement areas.

This position provides information dissemination to decision makers to support the implementation of departmental initiatives.

The Data Analyst works with Patient Care Services Research to design quality improvement and research projects; supporting them in preparing the documents necessary for Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval and grant preparation, when applicable, as well to develop reports, presentations and manuscripts.

The incumbent works closely with the staff of Patient Care Services and other departments within the Center of Nursing Professional Excellence when needed, on various projects to gather requirements and provide solutions related to research, quality/ process improvement and other needs.

Responsibilities

Serves as a resource for needs analyses:

    Analyzes requirements of stakeholders to identify data sources/systems/software and devise innovative methods to achieve optimum workflow, efficiency and data quality.
  • Acts as a resource to internal and external customers regarding project design and database informatics.
  • Through effective communication and problem solving, works with multi-disciplinary teams on specific projects to develop, maintain and implement scientifically sound database designs.

Designs, manages, validates and analyzes data related to research, quality improvement, administrative systems, internal/external reporting and bench-marking:

  • Collaborates with Medical Information Systems and other departments for design, acquisition, validation, maintenance and integrity of reports from a variety of data sources, based on user-defined need.
  • Works with departments throughout the hospital to develop, maintain and enhance process flow and other productivity tracking systems including, but not limited to, effort reporting and activity management.
  • Provides queries, abstraction and statistically sound reports and other data visualization to depict performance on key measures and benchmarking based on user-defined need.
  • Supports the reporting of measures included in hospital level report cards and improvement initiative
  • Provides support for data abstraction, querying and manipulation of data from a variety of internal, hospital-wide or national data sources for further analysis.
  • Mastery of data display methods for reporting and performance measurements.

Assists with quality improvement and research project design; preparing IRB and grant documents, reports, presentations and manuscripts:

  • Collaborates with others to develop quality improvement and research projects; advising on research methods, design and data management to implement strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and data quality.
  • Applies advanced programmatic techniques in developing audience-specific electronic data capture tools to improve process flow and reduce redundancy and risk of human error, including but not limited to user interfaces, interactive clinical decision support tools and outcome measuring.
  • Collaborates with quality improvement and research teams in preparation of IRB submission requirements
  • Assists with preparation of abstracts, posters, presentations and manuscripts with input of the team.

Support faculty and staff in their use of analytical tools:

  • Works in conjunction with MIT and Research Operations to beta test new software tools, providing feedback for improvement.
  • Consult with the Center of Nursing and Professional Excellence directors and managers on best practices in accessing and using their data.
  • Conducts individual and group training for staff on utilization of REDCap, I2B2, McKesson, Power BI, Business Objects, and other software tools to be used for research, quality/process improvement, and administrative projects.
  • Delivers to the Center of Nursing and Professional Excellence Director ongoing and ad hoc reports.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and 3-5 years' experience. Plus, a background in quality improvement/research and experience in computing preferred. This is an analytical role in a complex, dynamic environment using multiple databases and computing tools. OR
  • High School diploma or equivalent or Associate's degree
    • and 5-7 years' experience may be accepted in lieu of a Bachelor's degree

Starting Pay

Our pay ranges are market competitive. The pay range for this job begins at $28.20/hr, but your salaried offer will be determined based upon your education and experience.



Remote Work/Work from Home

This position is not eligible to work remotely, which means that the person hired will be required to work onsite at one of our Children's Mercy locations and may not work from home.
