Position Summary:

The Goodhue Center is seeking qualified and responsible lifeguards to work in our 7-week summer camp program. Lifeguards ensure pool safety by monitoring swimmers, enforcing rules, and providing swimming lessons. They also assist with the buddy system and help implement the pool safety plan.

Essential Duties:



  • Understand and promote the organization's Mission, Vision, and Core Values to ensure alignment with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a vigilant watch over the pool area to ensure the safety of all swimmers.
  • Monitor the behavior of swimmers and identify any potential hazards or unsafe practices.
  • Clearly communicate and enforce pool rules to all swimmers and visitors.
  • Conduct regular safety checks of the pool and surrounding areas.
  • Ensure that all safety equipment, such as life rings and first aid kits, are readily available and in good condition.
  • Facilitate the buddy system among campers to ensure they swim in pairs for added safety.
  • Keep track of all campers and ensure they are accounted for during swimming time.
  • Plan and conduct daily swimming lessons tailored to the skill levels of the campers.
  • Offer guidance and support to help campers improve their swimming abilities.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to develop and implement a comprehensive pool safety plan.
  • Participate in safety drills and training sessions to stay prepared for emergencies.
  • Assisting the pool supervisor or camp director as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


    Minimum Qualifications:



    • Must meet minimum age requirements in accordance with New York State Department of Health regulations (at least 16 years of age by June 2026)
    • Lifeguard Certification, including CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and First Aid.
    • Must maintain all appropriate lifeguard certifications.
    • Previous experience with children as a lifeguard or group leader preferred.

    The incumbent is expected to work a schedule, whether in-person or hybrid, as determined by the department's needs to facilitate effective collaboration with the team. The position's requirements are subject to periodic review and adjustment based on organizational needs and changes in work dynamics.
