POSITION OVERVIEW AND PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):

Alcyon, Inc a wholly owned company of Afognak Native Corporation has an opportunity for a Camp Mechanic in Kodiak, AK.The Camp Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of diesel and gas-powered equipment and support systems at a remote Alaska camp. This role is critical to ensuring reliable camp operations in a challenging, off-grid environment. The successful candidate must be self-motivated, safety-focused, and capable of working independently in extreme weather conditions.


Key Responsibilities:



  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel and Gas engines and related systems
  • Service generators, heavy equipment, light vehicles, and camp support equipment
  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections and document all work completed
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, fuel, and electrical issues
  • Maintain power generation and distribution systems to ensure uninterrupted camp operations
  • Order, track, and manage spare parts and maintenance supplies
  • Respond to mechanical breakdowns and emergency repairs as needed
  • Adhere strictly to safety, environmental, and regulatory standards
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
  • Support camp operations with additional maintenance tasks as required


Payrate:$37.50 to $45.00 Hourly

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Required Skills & Experience:



  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 5 - 10 yearsexperience as a diesel and gasoline mechanic.
  • Strong working knowledge of diesel engines, generators, and heavy equipment.
  • Strong working knowledge of Light truck's and their systems.
  • Basic welding and fabrication skills.
  • Experience working in remote or industrial environments.
  • Experience working in Alaska's rainforest.
  • Ability to read manuals, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Valid driver's license (CDL preferred but not required).
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screening and background check.


Physical & Work Environment Requirements:



  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Comfortable working long hours, outdoors, and in extreme weather conditions.
  • Must be able to stand, kneel, bend, and work in confined spaces.
  • Able to live and work cooperatively in a remote camp setting.


Preferred Skills & Experience:



  • Experience with Arctic or extreme cold-weather operations.
  • Familiarity with Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit Diesel, or similar engines.
  • Familiarity with Gen 1 and Gen 2 Ford Super duty trucks.
  • Familiarity with logging and logging operations.
  • Electrical troubleshooting experience.
  • Strong problem-solving and time-management skills.
