Overview

To supervise the Maintenance Services Section during a given shift (day, evening, and weekends). To analyze, determine, and complete maintenance service requirements pertaining to construction, alteration, installation, and repairs. To assist the Superintendent, Construction Management on maintenance service projects.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes, determines, and completes maintenance service requirements. Maintenance service requirementscan include construction, alteration, installation, and repair of buildings, equipment and furnishings.Constructs cabinets, shelves, and other specialty items. Inspects building systems (i.e., roof, flooring, finishes,and architectural elements) and diagnoses structural problems, malfunctions, or desired alterations.Determines and makes repairs. Performs preventive maintenance on the building and its furnishings
  • Plans, organizes and directs the activities of the Maintenance Services Section during a given shift (day, evening, and weekends). Performs supervisory administrative duties: prepares and conducts performance appraisals, counsels employees, and oversees employee training and development. Sets workload priorities to ensure tasks are completed with minimal inconvenience and/or disruption to Navy Federal operations. Delegates duties based on level of experience. Researches, documents, communicates, and observes compliance of Navy Federal, local, state, and federal regulatory guidelines pertaining to building maintenance
  • Oversees facility service and maintenance project contracts to include construction, custodial services, recycling, refuse collection, window cleaning, pest control, etc. Assists in the development of contract specifications. Supervises contractor provided staff and/or contract execution efforts to include scheduling and coordination; inspects work completed by contractors to verify specifications, code, and quality requirements have been met. Identifies errors or problems; offers solutions and suggestions for correction and final resolution
  • Assists Superintendent, Construction Management for assigned in-house and contracted projects. Reviewsdocumentation and blueprints developed by outside engineers and contractors for technical accuracy,constructability, and compatibility with existing systems and equipment. Works closely with the customer,contractor, and various levels of Navy Federal employees to ensure scheduled completion of project,resolving problems as necessary. Provides technical assistance and guidance to personnel in other buildingtrades (Electrical Services, Mechanical Services)
  • Observes and enforces safe working conditions through continual training of assigned journeymen and apprentices, and by bringing unsafe situations to the attention of employees whenever encountered
  • Maintains knowledge of industry, regulatory building codes, and EPA, ADA and OSHA laws and regulations, and trains apprentices
  • Performs other duties as assigned or appropriate

Qualifications

  • Journeyman's Certification in carpentry (this requires graduation from a four year state or other recognized training program)
  • Extensive experience in commercial carpentry work which demonstrates thorough knowledge of the tools, mathematics, materials, and safety regulations associated with the carpentry trade
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and evaluate subordinates; must be able to oversee work for compliance with OSHA requirements
  • Experience in operations and maintenance of large buildings; must be able to read building blueprints
  • Thorough knowledge of county and city building codes, fire protection and safety codes
  • Valid Driver's license
  • Effective planning and organizational skills; must have ability to meet deadlines, exercise initiative, good judgment and make sound decisions
  • Ability to work from ladders, platforms and in areas where it is hard to reach
  • Ability to lift, carry and set up tools, equipment and furnishings in excess of 50 pounds
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; must be able to work well with other trades

Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00AM - 3:30PM (Some Saturdays and on-call)
